Re: ps2 slide card

A much better option, if you want to use the Swap Magic discs, is the Fliptop. The slide card can damage your PS2. The Fliptop is a PS2 cover with a lid, so you can access the drive without openning the drawer. Just make sure you get the one that fits your version of PS2. I did send Sony my PS2 without the sticker on back. They fixed it.

Re: ps2 slide card

Can you please tell me a little more about this product? Do you use this personally? Also it says on their website that you still have to take the ps2 apart, won't that still void your warranty? After taking the back off, what all is involved then? Thanks for your help. I just don't want to screw anything up and void my warranty on a brand new playstation.

Re: ps2 slide card

Isn't the so called "warranty" only 90 days on a PS2?
Just wait 3 months and then you can do whatever you like.

Christine18 I moved your posts! They were in a P2P forum not a PS2 forum. Maybe you were worried about legalities, but this is more of a warranty thing and you will get more responses here!

Re: ps2 slide card

Sony recently fixed my cousins PS2 which was purchased on day one. The magic words to say when you speak with Sony are "disc read error". As I stated above, Sony fixed my PS2 with the sticker that said "If this sticker is removed the warranty is void" removed. That was a couple of years ago, they may have changed that policy, I don't know. The Fliptop take about 10-15 minutes to install. You have to take the cover off by removing the 8-10 screws from the bottom, then remove the cover. It should slide off fairly easily. Then you have to remove the dvd drive cover. Make sure you take the white plastic thingy off the top dvd drive and put it in the Fliptop lid as it hold the disc in place. Put the Fliptop back on in place of the PS2 cover. Put the screws and screw hole covers back in and your are ready to go. You could save the parts and reassemble the PS2 to send it in for repair. There is some risk involved. I guess that is up to you. The worst that could happen is they wouldn't fix your PS2 and you'd have to get a new one. They run about $70 on ebay. There are good installation instructions here:

http://www.chipzone.com/installation...ptop/page1.cfm

One other thing to keep in mind is that there have been several PS2 versions. You have to get the Fliptop that matches your version. You can find your version here:

http://www.whitedog.co.uk/ps2-version.shtml

Hope this helps.

Re: ps2 slide card

I heard the is a way to fix the new slim PS2 so it thinks the lid is closed. You may want to search the internet for that.

Re: ps2 slide card

if you have the new PS2, AKA PSTwo, you need a different flip top. You're lucky as one that works with the PSTwo/V12 PS2 just came out.

That is a V12 US version that should work fine with swap-magic 3.X disks (and of course with the magic switch set). An alternative could be the TwistTool, especially for V13+ console versions. You could check these at http://www.console.com/. Though a decent modchip cannot be beaten, no matter what "magic" disk you use, especially as there are several games that do not work/or work partially only without patching with these boot disks.

regards, Stephen

pS: warranty ? Oh, $ony already voided that with releasing such a crap laser as the V12+'s have. Anyway, as said a decent modchip plus the required laser protection (Comsoft or Summ0ne just to name a few) will last longer than the warranty, so no need to worry about that, of course an EXPERT installer is also needed.

hey christine18,
I use the slide card and swap magic to play my ps2 back ups. It does work and it is not suppose to have and damaging effects to the tray motor or lens.

Seconded.

I've been using the Slide Card and Swap Magic combo on my bulky V4 PS2 for 3 years now and have not experienced any problems with the disc tray or the drive motor.

That depends on the game itself and on the Swap Magic discs you have bought (PAL, NTSC, NTSC/J versions etc).

Re: ps2 slide card

My experience has been good really. Make sure your using decent media to burn though. Don't really think that the slide tool can cause much damage unless your extremely rough opening and closing the tray.

The flip top seems way more convenient though.
