Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Easy tutorial for backing up Xbox 360 games

I have tryed other ways of backing up my 360 games, using Schtrom and imgburn but i have always had problems when the xbox 360 reads them and they did not work. So i tryed this way of backing up the 360 games and it has not let me down.

For the Backups to work you must have a flashed Xbox 360.

Equipment needed:-
- Samsung SH-D162D DVD-ROM (flashed with the latest KREON v1.00 firmware)
- A dual layer DVD_RW drive ( I have used NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG)
- Blank DVD+R DL disks ( I have used Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL)
- Xbox Backup Creator V2.7 (Easily downloaded free)
- CloneCD (Easily downloaded)
- Xbox 360 games to Backup

Step one - Reading the original Xbox 360 game to your Hard drive
  1. Download and install 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7'.
  2. Open 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7'
  3. Click on scroll bar at the top, and select the 'Samsung SH-D162D DVD-ROM' drive.
  4. Then click on the start button, this will open a save as file,
  5. Select where you want to save the file and then name it and press ok.
  6. 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7' will now read the games data to your hard drive.
  7. It will take about 50 mins to complete the read to the hard drive.
  8. When it has finished, it will open a box up saying Read Complete.
  9. Close 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7'
Step two - Writing the image using CloneCD
  1. Download and install 'CloneCD'
  2. Open 'CloneCD'
  3. Put a blank DVD+R DL into a dual layer DVD_RW drive ( I have used NEC DVD_RW ND-3500AG)
  4. Then click the 2nd picture (this picture is of a disk and a pencil)
  5. It will then open a box up, 'Copy from imageFile to CD-Writer',
  6. Click Browse and another box will open up,
  7. Locate the file which was saved using 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7'. It will be a .dvd file. (The 'Xbox Backup Creator V2.7' created 2 files one a .iso and the other a .dvd file, only open the .dvd file)
  8. Click open on the file
  9. Press next
  10. Then press OK
  11. It will take about 40 mins to burn the image on the DVD+R DL
  12. Then it will open a box up at the end saying 'Burn complete'.
  13. Press ok then close the program down
Try the disk in the xbox 360 it should be a true copy of the origional and this backup tutorial should work with every disk you backup.

Thanks Ryan

Just picked one up off eBay... works like a champ. It came pre-flashed.

This works very well. The only thing I would add is to ensure that "Complete Backup" is selected and not "Current Parition". For whatever reason mine defaults to the latter.

Good stuff.

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

just a general word of advice for anyone new to moding xbox360's...

READ THESE TUTORIALS as they pretty much cover all the "need to know" information in easy to understand terms.

http://tinyurl.com/27xzd5 (textbook.pdf) (covers Samsungs/Hitachi (like tells your how to mod them so you can play backup copies of your original games) AND BACKING UP GAMES)

for BenQ's (if your have a BenQ drive in your xbox360) = http://tinyurl.com/2cse6f (BenQ iPrep Tutorial) (this tells your how to mod your benq drive so you can play backup copies of your original games)

and if you got a xbox360 it's a good idea to buy this... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815124022 (basically the main thing is the VIA 6421 chipset) ... as this can flash any current xbox360 dvd-rom drive out there... although you want to avoid getting a xbox360 with a hitachi 79 in it as it's the only drive where you would have to solder stuff... everything else THAT CARD MAKES IT EASY TO DO! (no soldering required)

that wont work... as far as you still need to mod the system and you need a drive in the first place that can READ the xbox360 game data which only a Kreon drive can or the xbox360's drive itself to make backups of your originals.

so only software you need is XBox Backup Creator (this reads the game data to the pc's hard drive)

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Does it do this with legit games as well? If so, it sounds like you forgot to copy the drive key from your orig.bin file to your new BIOS. That, or I believe this can also happen when there is something wrong with the laser.

Did you use the xbox before the mod and confirm it worked before pulling it apart?

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Hi this is my first post and im ok with pc knowledge but a bit nooby with this dvd/cd backup software stuff so hope u will understand me and mayb I can help someone else sometime
thought I needed to ask this question as I cant see an answer for it anywhere though I have noticed 1 or 2 peeps asking it also

Ok I have many dvd/cd copy/backup programs installed but although I think I may b able to backup some games I CANT WORK OUT HOW TO MAKE THE IMAGE FILE which I would then burn

It seems to me that most if not all the sofware available will only create an image file (ISO)? if the xbox has previously been connected to the PC. So how can I make/create/mount an image file from my original disk so I can back up my game? w/o needing to have the 360 connected to my pc though I have just recently Hard-modded the 360 (chipped) still I cant make back ups and this is basically because I cant create an image file of the contents of the 360 game my writer i think supports DL format and I have in the past successfully backed up ps2 games but this is becoming a nightmare . tried ;clonecd alcohol 120 xbox backup creator qwix NOTHING WORKED :-( plz help! also have dvd decrypter but i think this is used for burning only (correct me if im wrong here)

Peace out

bottom line (for what u asked) your going to need a Kreon drive (which you can get on ebay) and software called XBox Backup Creator ( http://tinyurl.com/2sj3h8 ) .... then you can make image (.dvd and .iso) to your pc's hard drive which you can then use IMGBurn ( www.imgburn.com ) to burn back onto a Verbatim DVD+R DL disc.

also, you do not have to "modchip" your xbox as it can all be done through software (flashing the dvd-rom drives firmware)... cause if your planning on using xbox live it's best to have one console tottally stock and one for playing backups.... this is only foolproof way to not get banned on xbox live.

NOTE: when using imgburn... make SURE you load the .DVD file into it and NOT the .ISO file!

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

ok im new to this when you say you need the Samsung SH-D162D DVD-ROM (flashed with the latest KREON v1.00 firmware). I could have my DVD-ROM in my xbox chipped with firmware and it wouldnt matter if it was the samsung or the benq would it.

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Mickey, for the 360, you need a special drive, the Samsung SH-D162D to read and rip the games onto your PC. On the console itself, it wouldn't matter so much which drive you have in it.

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

I heard this is a way to tell what DVD drive is in the XBOX by the Serial Number.

Anyone have a link to this info and how to tell?

Thanks

hey whats up rob actually there isnt an exact science to it but there is a way to help you well to ways one is by looking at the dvd drive
if you lucky enough to have either a sammy or a benq your pretty much set but if you have an Hitachi drive well then things can get tricky and you would have to open your case which will void your warranty all Hitachi drives are hackable just the v79 drives are the hardest and require you to remove a piece off the drive

but if you do have an hitachi this might help determine which one its a list of all the xbox 360 that were made and when and sold to where it can help you figure out which one you have without having to open it up
http://www.360drives.com/list

just on a side note if you just recently bought or had a returned 360 and have a benq drive be careful the new benq drive is uncrackable as of yet but there are a few people working on it i would say check out 360mods.net

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Hey

I am thinking about buying a 360 shortly and have been reading up on how to backup games etc and really just have one question.

Assuming I have created a backup with samsung drive/PC etc, do I still need to flash the firmware on the 360 to ensure that the backup disk works? or does a backup created like this work without changing the firmware in the drive..... from reading all through this thread it kind of sounds like you need to change the firmware but no one has come out and said it ...
On the other hand I am hearing that backups created in this manner and bitset to DVD-ROM are identical to the original disk? Can some one clarify this once and for all for me??

I was hoping to play on XBL with the 360 so wasn't planning on modding the inbuilt drive unless I really needed to.... those of you who have modified it, do you play on XBL with backups created in this manner... anyone been banned... I understand in future new checks etc might be implemented so its never 100% safe, but whats the general lowdown on this?

This thread has been most enlightening on the subject.... lots of misleading info on this subject elsewhere so its good to get some solid answers. Thanks!

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Yes, you need to change the firmware on your drive to play your backups. If it's truly just for backups... you could leave the firmware stock and then change it once you've damaged your original and need to actually play the backup. But like I said... you need to mod the firware to play the backup.

I can't speak to how the backups are created from a bit level, as I don't honestly know, however since you need a different firmware it's obvious something about it is not a 1 to 1.

As for the LIVE question. I have been using a modded 360 on live for about 8 months now. I NEVER sign in with a backup in the drive (2 different profiles, one live... one not) and only play store bought or rented games online. Use Xlink or something like that to play with friends.. or if playing on LIVE is that valuable to you... hang on to the original. I honestly could careless if I got banned... but it's pretty entertaining while it lasts.

Now, as you mentioned, there is no guarantee to the LIVE info. There are people who will argue that even my method is not fool proof and not 100%... and you do have to pay attention to not accidently sign in with the wrong account... but I can tell you it's worked for me (so far).

Good luck! Make sure you write down the original drive key... you'll get burned without it.

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Hi all,

Great forum with lots of good info.

Now for some noob questions (Flame suit on)

1. When backing up my xbox 360 games which size +DL discs
should i use 4.7GB or 8.5GB?

2. Im going to get a SH-D162D with kreon V1.0 soon but
before i do i was wondering if the SH-D162B would work
with XBC V2.8 as ive seen some quite cheap?

3. I have some NTSC games that my wife got in japan and they are
REGION coded so they wont play on my modded PAL system, is there
anyway to take the region coding off when backing them up?

Any information or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Re: How Do You Backup XBOX 360 Games?

Speed wise x2.4 or x8 will do, Verbatim disc's and one's that are mis if possible.

Ether of those two drives will do, the 162 is the ide version and the 163 is the sata version.
