backing up xbox 360 games

I've got a backed up xbox 360 game and was wondering if it's possible to make a copy in my duplicator?

I've tried it, but the disk won't read in the xbox 360.

Can you make a back up using a duplicator or do you need to use cloneCD?

cheers

errrrrr.. it wont read unless its chipped, or if you dont have live, you can flash the drives firmware. also wont read in clone cd as it is an xbox file. you can only ftp from the xbox from what i understand.

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

thanks for replying

my xbox is modified so it does play backups. I can burn a copy using cloneCD and it works.

I want to know if it is possible to make a copy using my duplicator or can you only copy them using cloneCD?

FYI to copy original games you need to either copy the disk using your normal pc drive, but download the security sector files from the internet. Or you can plug the xbox drive into your pc and copy direct from the disk

you don't need to ftp the files across I think this was just with the xbox 1

oh right... i dont have an xbox 360.. im deprived so i dont know much about copying those games. but if you are able to see the files on your computer copying with clonecd probably will work, but the only way to find out is to test it (use the free trial) or you could try alcohol 120%...
Hope this helps

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

ok no offence guys but there is a few people posted on this thread who don't know what they're talking about....I am not looking for an argument just help with my problem.

You can burn an image no problem using cloneCD and the game will boot fine in a modified xbox. I can use cloneCD to make a disk to disk copy using the disk I just made. It works fine too.

If I put the disk in the duplicator the copied disk is unreadable.

The first problem was it was the master disk was about 7gb, but for some reason it tried to burn a full 8.5gb to the disk. I think this has something to do with the duplicator not knowing where the layer break is and filling it with empty data.

Anyway the disk comes up "unrecognized" in the xbox

So updated the firmware on the duplicator. Now it's burning 7gb fine. The disk BOOKTYPE is DVD-ROM as required for the back up to work, but it still comes up with "unrecognized"

Why is this is the duplcator is just doing a straight 1:1 copy? What is different about cloneCD that allows the disk to work?

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

Have you check where you duplicator is put the layer break. All 360 games are going to have to have the layer break in that same spot where as clone cd does it for you. You can also use decryptor for this but the first time you will have to tell decryptor where the l;ayer break is.

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

I've been trying to figure it out as well. The problem with duplicator is that it creates the layer break at exactly 50% of disc size. Though as've you said the layer break for X360 games has to be at exact same location.

I've been thinking if you can increase game size by adding FFFF at the end of the image the trick might work so that the game size iz exactly twice the size of the required layer break.
What do you think?

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

I don't know much about the duplicator idea and the layer break stuff, but clonecd works like a charm for burning. I have some problems of my own when playing games though. The burns are fine and the xbox reads them long enough to load and start gameplay for a bit then..."the disk is unreadable. clean your disk blah blah..." Some copies work as do originals, just a select few are unreadable. The odd thing though is that all games used to work perfectly and one day the read problem started. I've tried different firmware versions and a lot of people say the laser POT of the xbox needs to be boosted. I'm going to start looking into making backups of originals a bit more, so if I find anything I'll post it here. Thanks

Go and buy a copy of the program "5 Star Game Copy" and it will do all the stuff you want without any hiccups.

BTW, welcome to the forum.

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

I know about duplicators because i got 4 different ones acard, wytron, copystar and vinpower. I think the vinpower is the best duplicator around as it dose my xbox360 backups at 8 speed and it takes me 15min to burn with it. the good thing is it work well in my xbox360 all i have to do it burn the master with cd clone and thats it i use traxdata DL disc. and i can do 18 speed dvd-r and it takes me 6 min to burn a full 4.3gb. and you dont need to add a harddrive in the duplicator as it has 128mb buffer on the controler.

Some kind of Ritek crap... I smell dead lasers appearing soon.

regards, Stephen

pS: tried some HP DL media, with CMC media code. Hitachi drives had troubles reading them. 1 out of 6 turned to be a total coaster, two seem to have reading problems, and yeah 3 work fine. Great deal... Verbatim cannot be beaten. (Ricoh have some chance though, if the burner supports their disks)

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

Wait a minute top-dog, you claim to be very experienced in duplicators, and you have made claims about how good Vinpower is(which I have disputed). But in another thread you stated that the Vinpower unit you were using had 256mb buffer, and now you state it has 128. So which is it? I know about Vinpower, they are well known for rebranding whatever controllers are cheapest at the moment with their faceplate. While they may work for you in your particular configuration there is no need to shill for them.

Re: backing up xbox 360 games

regarding copying from original, hows about good discs (verbatim dl) in a cheap lg dl burner ? Also curious what actually wears down the lens..I assume just hard work, any suggestions bout how burns will play and if my burner will make hard to read discs?

whats more important, a good disc or burner?

thanks

use imgburn it is the best and free although donations are accepted

once youve installed imgburn right click on the .DVD file and select burn with imgburn or load it up manually. for the media verbatim dl are the best search the internet for the best deal.

good burners are pioneer 111d and onwards although i havent tested them all i curently use a nec 7170s which works fine on my hitachi 78 based 360 but wont produce a working backup for the hitachi 47 based 360
