Strange results from Kprobe

When using Kprobe (1.1.29) to scan CD-R media for C1 errors on my LTD-163D DVD-ROM drive, I noticed an odd behavior: when manually changing the speed from 8x to 16x (CD) resulted in a dramatic increase in reported C1 errors *but* the speed indicator did not display any appreciable increase in scanning. It was as if instructing the reader to read at the higher speed itself resulted in a lot more errors being reported, despite the actual read rate. I am wondering why that is. Any idea? Thanks.
