| Kprobe questions I am using kprobe 2.4.2 and after a bler scan I get some results that I am too stupid to interpret. I have been reading tutorials and stuff off the site and not only does it not show the C1/C2 error thing or PI/PO error thing, it shows a PI/PIF error thing instead! I therefore panicked, not knowing what these new numbers and abbreviation pairs mean. There is also a count on the number of errors in kprobe 2.4.2 but I have no idea what kind of error. Can someone please answer a few questions regarding this newer version? 1. Before it was 280/32 or something for PI/PO errors. Is that for kprobe v1 only or does that apply to v2? Now its PI/PIF. Has the scale changed and what are the new target numbers? 2. That error thing is really getting onto me. Does it mean the number of corrupt parts on the dvd? I scanned a dvd and it says 2 errors on the attached png. I really am not looking for comparisons right now of which media is better than which but am trying to find an easier way to figure out whether or not my burned dvd data is able to be "completely" and losslessly dragged onto my desktop. I just want to figure out something simple like that. I could always drag out all the files instead of testing and it would be a sure fire way but isn't there an easier way? | Re: Kprobe questions 1. 280 PI and 4 PIF but I'd prefer 10-20 PI and 1-2 PIF max. 2. 2 errors scanned at 4x is strange to me if it's SONY04D1. Perhaps it occurs only when scanned with 811S? 3. Everyone wants a simpler method of testing. Comparing various media and even various firmwares is being done just to make sure if the files on the DVD disks can be "simply" read back.

| Re: Kprobe questions Well my head aches from reading so many posts and threads/guides. THanks everyone for your help. I am going to do it the dirty but safe way: by dragging it out and finding crc errors. Considering my liteon is so far the worse reader out of the three I have, I will know that at least all three will play it if it works on the liteon. |

| Re: Kprobe questions The only problem with this approach is that it gives you no indication of how good or bad the disc really is. You can see some really crappy burns that will still copy data. The only purpose of error scanning is to give you an indication of which media works best, and at what speed, in your burner. The absolute numbers are not especially important. LOWER is BETTER. You are not scanning for data errors, and scans give no indication of the absolute "Readability" of the data on the disc. A better measure of these things might be CDSpeed transfer rate test on a drive that has no speed locks, and/or the CDSpeed scandisc test. A disc with very high error rates may copy well enough today, but not tomorrow. |

| Re: Kprobe questions Yeah, I always go for both the k-probe (or cd-speed quality test) as well as the cd-speed transfer speed test. I see too many weird results that will lead me to beleive a disc is not the way it is if i only do one of the tests. E.G. Mcc003 can have over 40PI at the end of a burn, but these discs always read back perfect, right to the end. Ritek R02 was giving nice PI scans, but couldn't read above 6x in my lite-on 166 ![]() |
