Hi Erik. Finally got a chance to use Nero DiscSpeed v4.11.2.0 and I'm amazed to see the TRT problem is still there and also jitter testing for the LiteOn 20A3x doesn't work.

I can't use your program with these problems, which is a pity and I'm noticing a lot more people starting to use DVDInfoPro because it handles both TRT testing and jitter for all LiteOn models, without any issues.

Is there any chance we can get an urgent fix for these problems. Thanks.

Sorry about that. I've put Nero CD-DVD Speed 4.7.7.16 online which doesn't have this problem.

The TRT issue has also been fixed in DiscSpeed but that version is not ready yet.

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Thanks for releasing this "old" update, Erik!

One of the things that DiscSpeed 4.11.2.0 did fix is the QuickScan average- at least for PIE. Here is a scan with 50 samples of the same (pressed) DVD that I used in my previous test. You can directly compare the QuickScan images.

This time the PIE average is ca. 6 instead of 296, which agrees well with the full scan value 5.6 (not repeated). The PIF value seems a bit high- I'd expect something like 0.1 (or less), but that may result from the low totals.

Can you to refer me to any list of new models of DVD-Multi-Recorders that have full support by Nero CD-DVD Speed or DiscSpeed.

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Hi
Welcome onboard XuMEPA.
My understanding is that Pioneer asked for their drives to be withdrawn from the list of CD/DVDSpeed supported drives.
Hence the early version has support.
Latter versions don't.

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Thank you, Zebadee!

I already find info by Erik... It is very bad.
Why I was changed my BENQ DW1640 to PIONEER?!?

Can you advise any internal IDE DVD+/-RW NEC(Optiarc) / Lite-On / Sony that have full support of CD-DVD Speed (DiscSpeed) ?

LiteOn DVD±RW LiteON DS-8A1P-021C, slim 12.7mm - ?
NEC Optiarc AD-7593A slim 12.7mm - ?
NEC Optiarc AD-7910A, ultraslim 9.5mm - ?

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Welcome to CDF timstr7 - I will say to you now that this DVD/CD quality testing can become a bit habit forming

I cant offer any real world slimline drive support as I am not a laptop/notebook user (I like to be able to get away from computers every now and then).

But, of the drives you have named below Lite0n drives always seem to be very good in the quality testing areas, and IMO there are more tools that can easily be used to do so.

Where as NEC/Optiarc drives are not so honest in the quality scanning area, but can often be what we call a 'picky' reader which are very good in the TRT testing area.

As said I cant help you with the drives named so they could be the exception to the rule.

Have you used the forum search to check out each drive ?

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Lenny_Nero,

Thank you for your answer and advice.

Today I bought LiteOn LiteON DS-8A1P-021C - and yes, CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality Test works fine

I decided not to go with NEC/Optiarc drives - because as far as I understand - even if these drives support Disc Quality Test - well, what results they will give you - is another story...

I tried to get as much info as possible (on the forum and on the internet as well) - the only thing I can tell you - there is hardly any information on slim dvd-writers drives - no reviews at all!

I got only the following results on slim drives:
Samsung SN S082H does not support quality tests;
Plextor AL 608 (which is actually made by Pioneer) does not support quality tests;
NEC AD7543 support quality tests.

I would be interested in seeing some burns from that drive please.

But does this drive has correct hardware to get reliable results (like LiteON - Mediatek chipset, or Plextor - Sanyo chipset)? Or you get results similar to results from NEC/Optiarc drives?

@timstr7

Do you have any 8x blanks to try? If you don't have anything to burn then don't waste one with CDs_Test_B2 files. Just whenever if you burn one or have some.

Bob,

I don't have any 8X media now. If I will get one (I will ask my friends if they have some left - nowadays 8x are hard to find and buy) - I will post results.

Re: CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality (PI/PIF) Test

Hi everybody!

I think this is the right thread for a question about DiscSpeed -tell me if i'am wrong. Does DiscSpeed Support Disc Quality scans of DVD-RAM media? I just tried to do this on an Optiarc 7200S drive (Firmware 1.06, DiscSpeed Version 4.11.2.0). Last message i got is that the drive will spin up, but this never happens. Finally only a hardware reset of the complete system brings windows to life again. I tried this several times -DiscSpeed crashes again and again, even with different discs.
The discs work fine so far, they are identified correctly and can be read without any problems.

Thanks for your help,
GENKI
