I was wondering the best method for determining the quality of XBOX 360 back ups.

Just like any other dl media, do a Transfer Rate Test with CD/DVD Speed.

Transfer rate test is a good way. Do it on a couple drives and if you get no slowdowns, things are good. Usual suspect spots for problems are near the layer break and right at the end of the disc.
