The XP alternative for Vista PCs

update

While Microsoft is still pushing Vista hard, the company is quietly allowing PC makers to offer a "downgrade" option to buyers that get machines with the new operating system but want to switch to Windows XP.

Re: The XP alternative for Vista PCs

Lol!
I used vista on my notebook for a month & got the $#!7$ with it's DRM crippled "features".
Then I deleted the partitions & put trusty old winxp on, and linux.
I use linux predominantly now & prefer it over winxp.
As third party software developers recognise linux more, software will be released for both the M$ platform & linux platforms & the biggest gripe that linux users have (ie, games & commercial software availability) will no longer be a valid excuse not to use the open source, & usually free, OS.

While I hesitate to say a linux desktop is ready to replace a M$ desktop for most users ... it will not be long before that is the case.

And lets face it ... most people that don't know anything about computers will have someone that DOES buy it for them.

Linux appeals to me, as an option for my parents (my father FUBARS the OS every 6 months), but I am hesitant due to the software compatability atm.

Admitting that you've illegally downloaded movies/songs and need help to process/burn is comparable to robbing a bank, and walking into the bank the next day holding the bags of money to deposit them into your account.
Don't be surprised if people laugh at you when you make the headlines.
