Valve deactivating customers who buy internationally

Quote:
According to reader Todd, there are quite a few customers are finding their "Orange Box" games have been deactivated by Valve because they bought them from a seller that wasn't authorized to do business with US customers. The seller made the mistake, but the gamers are paying the price.

Screw valve.

This is why activation sucks - it only screws the consumers.

They only shut down the registration keys of people who are using localized serial keys meant for poor countries.

But then sony appealed .. and it was concluded that the provision of modchips was illegal, but the use of modchips wasn't

who told you that? sony appealed and got an even worse result. The judge ruled that anyone should be able to buy what ever they want where ever they want and enjoy fair use of it no matter where they buy it from, hence the ps3 is region free and any sony dvd player is too

Correct. As a lowly humanoid customer you are entitled to make sure the big huge companies can make a lot of profit. You will submit to the local profit margin!

Re: Valve deactivating customers who buy internationally

Funny you should say that ... but there was one of those aussie consumer watchdog shows dealing with Supermarket profit margins this week .. and they reported about 400-800% profit.

One of my friends that used to work at a (major) supermarket was laughing .. because the profit margins on most items was >1600%.
Some items only had small 400% margins though. I bet that just kills the major supermarkets that they can't charge more than 400% margin for those items
