It looks likely that the RIAA will be bolstered by this court decision given that the defendant has to pay $220,000 in damages to the six record labels suing her for the 24 sample songs used in court.
The Judges ruling may be appealed at some stage given the surroundings of the case as reported.

So the RIAA, who has no lack of money, is going to ruin the defendant's whole life over some songs?

Yeah, that makes a lot of sense, and will definitely stamp out copyright infringements.
