Microsoft gives up on Vista?????

According to sources Vista SP1 will rewrite the OS to Windows XP?
See more here: http://www.bbspot.com/News/2007/09/m...nstall-xp.html

"We're focused on giving the customer what they want, and want they want is to just go back to XP," said Microsoft Development Chief Greg Elston.

Do we get refunds for the over priced krap that M$ foisted upon us.

Re: Microsoft gives up on Vista?????

Does this mean that M$ tried to sell us a Krap OS "not fit for purpose" that in reality was just a prettier gui ( also loaded with DRM rubbish ) version of XP anyway and charge us extra for the privilege.
Way to go M$.

No, it means that the linked article is humour and should not be taken seriously.

I guess that what they wanted to say is that Vista is the ME of the NT generation .

I can work with both if I have to, but prefer SUSE .

Re: Microsoft gives up on Vista?????

I kinda like Vista. But, like most MS OS releases, I think it could be made better by scrapping features Microsoft included rather than adding features they omitted.

Re: Microsoft gives up on Vista?????

Even though the bbspot story may be just humour, going by this Yahoo story, Microsoft has started allowing manufacturers to preload their computers featuring Vista Business/Ultimate with an option to downgrade to XP. Depending on the manufacturer, the downgrade disc can be either supplied with the computer or in the case with Lenovo, purchased until July 31st, 2008.

While I know there are some who are happy with Vista or even prefer it over XP, just about everyone I have spoke to who prefers Vista have high end PCs, such as at least 4GB of RAM, an over-clocked dual or quad core CPU, a high end well spec'd motherboard, a high end graphics card and so on. With this sort of hardware, I'm not surprised! However, the majority of consumers are not going to empty their pockets on high end hardware just to run Vista. Most of those I have spoke to with an average PC/laptop specification, especially with 1GB or less RAM, have been complaining about one thing after another with Vista, with the main issues being speed and software crashing out.

Unfortunately, as the Basic & Premium versions dominate the home user market, those planning on getting a new computer will still have to make the big decision of going with XP or Vista before they buy.

Most people just don't have that sort of hardware. Even most affordable hardware (pre-0built PC's) don't have high enough specs to be comfortable with Vista. It'll be another 18months for mainstream hardware to grow into vista requirements.

Most people don't want to fork out alot of hard earned cash to upgrade a PC that before vista was absolutely fine. When it breaks down, or is hopelessly out of date, vista will be fine.

The fact that Vista has issues on decent amounts of ram suggests that it is much less efficient than XP, and M$ has gone backwards, as far as development is concerned. The OS is the base, and applications should take up bandwidth & memory, not the OS. Everything should be turned off by default, unless the user specifically requests it on - and build it into Ben Hur if they want it on, and their PC is spec'd for it.
There is nothing stopping M$ from doing this .. but by default it's a memory hog, and incredibly inefficient.

Re: Microsoft gives up on Vista?????

I think Sean and debro have this figured out. I have no problems with Vista, but I keep my lower spec machines on XP. It seems as though this is a rare case of the software coming out ahead of the hardware. A few years and a few new computer purchases will smooth things out.
