Internet Censorship in Australia?

Quote:
"Left wing Australian Christian political party Family First wants an annual levy of $7 to $10 on all internet users in Australia to fund a $45 million mandatory national internet filtering scheme aimed at blocking pornographic and offensive content at server level. (Read Family First's Policy Statement on Internet Pornography and Children (pdf) ) Great firewall of Australia, here we come!"
what a joke!

sound like comunism is speading again. then again in the uk BT has already started filtering some child and illegal pr0nography. i dont d/l pr0n myself but i still disagree that it should be filtered by the goverment unless it is illegal.

it's not just pron it's what they are going to consider "offensive material" to bible bashers that would be anything they don't want to see.

Re: Internet Censorship in Australia?

if they want to help the world there are alot of better ways to spend $45 million. my opinion is that if people want to look at it let them. i only have a problem when it is clild pr0n or stuff found on ogrish, goregasm and rotten (like people eating dead kids ), but filering australias interent really isnt gonna make the world a better place

Re: Internet Censorship in Australia?

We've had (unenforceable) anti-pr0n internet laws for a while downunder.

A few years ago the Howard government enacted them as a sop to Senator Harradine in return for his support for selling off (I think it was the second tranch of) Telstra.

Apparently these new wowsers have realised that those laws can't be enforced (impossible to block access to off-shorn pr0n sites after all) and now want to find some other way to enforce their moral views on everyone else.

Tell me about it. It's just getting worse and worse in this country, Last night I went to buy manhunt and got told by the store clerk that she cant sell it to me, what a load of shit, the wowsers managed to get manhunt banned on the 29th of last month in australia. It seems these fuckwits think that even men and women, not just children can't handle a fucking game.

The story on manhunt Here
