| Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico This is not good news. Duane "Dog" Chapman, whom we have written a lot about this past week since he caught Andrew Luster, and his crew are going to be criminally charged in Mexico. Prosecutor Marco Roberto Juarez said he is charging the five with criminal association and illegal deprivation of liberty, which is like kidnapping without requesting a ransom. Both charges carry a maximum of four years in prison. The five were being transferred to a state penitentiary and court house in Puerto Vallarta, where the charges will be presented to a judge. They were led out of the prosecutor's office Friday unshaven and looking tired and glum. With their hands shoved in their pockets, they refused to talk to reporters. Chapman, his brother Timothy, his son Leland, reality TV producer Jeff Sells and actor Boris Krutonog were arrested about two hours after they captured Luster near a Puerto Vallarta taco stand where he had just ordered breakfast. We're not the only ones in Denver to support Chapman. Read this. We know Dog's Denver lawyer and his Hawaii lawyer and we have no doubt they will be helping Dog and the others out immediately. Fox News is covering the story Saturday night-- we were asked to go on but since we're out of town and way too far from any studios. we had to take a raincheck. If you're watching, we hope you will give him the benefit of the doubt. Source

| Re: Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico I know Rita Cosby (formerly at FOXNews) was a major backer of Dog. I would imagine his lawyers will get him off, although I don't know how quickly. Yeesh... the prosecutor in Mexico is just trying to pull a fast one.

| Re: Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico I just saw the A&E special, and Mexico in general is trying to pull a fast one on Dog! Really, the U.S. should stand up to Mexico and tell them Dog will not be extradited--period--and case closed! The U.S. should also tell Mexico that "this will continue happening until you lift your ban on not extraditing U.S. criminals that flee to Mexico to avoid U.S. prosecution." It is this very Mexican gov't policy that is at the heart of this problem, and if people think some U.S. prisons are bad, Mexico's are far worse (if you don't have an idea, watch the movie "All the Pretty Horses" to get a fairly good idea). Had Mexico "cowboyed up" and extradited Luster as it should have, this would not be happening. Just to clarify: I don't make this statement because of any particular loyalty or liking to "Dog," but I speak of this based solely on the principle of the matter and the existing legal situation Mexico created in the first place.

| Re: Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico And the main woman Luster was planning to re-rape (he had written her name down in his notebook, along with other women and people) is starting to coordinate a legal defense fund for Dog. Hopefully that will go a long way in helping him. ![]()

| Re: Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico I agree the the US needs to stand up to the Mexican government and say forget it, you can't have him. There is still the issue of the $350,000 bail posted for his release. I feel our government should also take care of that. I cannot believe that we have already sent federal marshals to arrest him and are making him wear an ankle bracelet like a common criminal! I guess our government is afraid of jeopardizing our trade agreement with Mexico. It just makes me ![]() |

| Re: Dog the Bounty Hunter Being Charged in Mexico Well, Mexico isn't too concerned about its trade relations with the U.S., either--which makes me sick because I'm part Mexican! But the fact is that official Mexican gov't policy is to put off most of its problems on the U.S., because it believes the U.S. owes it in perpetuity for "stealing" (as they maintain, and it's even in 5th grade history books) the southwest from them (but Santa Ana received ~18 mil USD for that land, something they don't recognize). So, they figure they can pretty much do what they want and the U.S. is just supposed to accept it. You are right: the U.S. should and must take a stand on this, as it was also the Mexican judge and lawyers there that gave Dog this "leeway," although there must not be any "ex-post facto" prohibition in the Mexican constitution (saying something is a crime after the fact when it was not a crime at the time). Since he's still on American soil, the U.S. should politely remind the Mexican gov't about their lack of extradition in criminal cases, then tell them to "go sit on jalapeño."
