Deja vu all over again: Sony uses rootkits, charges F-Secure

Quote:
August 27, 2007 (Computerworld) -- A line of USB drives sold by Sony Electronics Inc. installs files in a hidden folder that can be accessed and used by hackers, a Finnish security company charged today, raising the specter of a replay of the fiasco that hit Sony's music arm two years ago when researchers discovered that its copy protection software used rootkit-like technologies.

I doubt it - Bluray is already hurting.

FFS Sony! WTF is wrong with you?
Fool us once, shame on you. Fool us twice ... shame on you.

Sony bundles rootkit-like software on USB drive

Again!
they dont have learn the lesson from last time!

A USB fingerprint authentication device from Sony contains rootkit-like technology, according to security watchers. The MicroVault USM-F fingerprint reader software bundled with the stick installs a hidden directory under Windows.

"Files in this directory are also hidden from some antivirus scanners (as with the Sony BMG DRM case) — depending on the techniques employed by the anti-virus software. It is therefore technically possible for malware to use the hidden directory as a hiding place," warns ant
i-virus firm F-Secure.
