BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, Witch drive do I use to make a scan at CD and DVD Burners forum; I`m a lucky owner of a BenQ 1640 and a HP 400C ( I think, can`t remenber), but crossflashed to a BenQ 1625. When I do a scan, 1640 always makes better scan`s than the 1625. Should I perform my scans with another drive, or is it ok,

Witch drive do I use to make a scan

I`m a lucky owner of a BenQ 1640 and
a HP 400C ( I think, can`t remenber), but crossflashed to a BenQ 1625.
When I do a scan, 1640 always makes better scan`s than the 1625.
Should I perform my scans with another drive, or is it ok, i`ve notished lots of you guys use an another drive to perform scans ( Liteon ? )
I don´t know how to save and post a scan yet, but all my scans on mediacode
TYG02 ( dvd-r ), - SONY.D11.8 ( dvd+r ) and - Daxon AZ2 ( dvd+r ) and - MCC 004.8 ( dvd+r ) reports a perfection from 97 to 99 % in quality-measurres in nero cd/dvd speed.
These scans are made on my 1640 ( FW BSLB RPC1 ).
I`ve tried the newest FW BSOB, but the scans on the same media only showes quality scores from 91- 97 on the same discs mentioned aboved ( I´m back to BSLB ).
When I`ve burn`t a disc, I allways make a quick-scan afterwards the burning, but I`m not able to save the scan ( don`t know how to, it seems not to be highlighted in the menu ).
Can one of you guys tell me how to save a scan, so I can post my scans, please !!
Best regards, and sorry for my bad english, living in Denmark

I would use the 1640 for scanning and burning.
When scanning with Nero CD-DVD Speed, be sure to set the scan speed @8x if scanning with the BenQ as that's the standard here.
Also, a Quick Scan doesn't really tell you much, other than if you made a coaster. Do a full scan.
To save a scan's results, just click the button in the top right of the window that looks like a floppy disc, then save the image as a ".png" type file.
Your English is fine.

Re: Witch drive do I use to make a scan

I love my BenQ1640 as a burner but have bought a Liteon 1693S simply to do the scans. when scanning new burns there is little to choose between then BenQ and the Liteon.

Looking at poorer quaility media burned 1 or 2 or even 3 years ago I have found that the BenQ gives impossible readings ( off the scale) while the Liteon shows that the disks are bad but still playable.

As all of these disks are in fact still playable and not the coasters that the BenQ would suggest I have concluded that the Liteon is giving me more accuarate results.

You might want to start burning new copies while they still play.

Yo HS-

Have to totally agree with you on this one-

I too have done a lot of different scans - and the LiteOn gives the most consistant - agreeing scan with Kprobe of them all-

The worst is the NEC 3540 - very unreliable IMO-

Re: Witch drive do I use to make a scan

you ever seen pioneer scan from 108 109 or 110 , ya they scan too, and let me tell you what comes out of those drives is totally messed-up. I did test sorry no scans to post, as erased them they were so different, from pioneer scan you would have thought the media was 100% crap and a coaster, from liteon 1693 the pie level never went past 10 and pif level was like 2.5, but pioneer scan pie level 1000+ many hills across the scan and the pioneer scans pio not pif so the pio graph was 100+ and hilly too.
