Very Old Philips drives firmware

Older Philips CD/CDRW drives were sold under a different division of Philips. If you have an older drive like my CDD3610 (2x2x6) and want to try flashing it, visiting the current Philips CD/CDRW areas will only get you their scorn, try my link.

http://www.consumer.philips.com/glob...=1,resizable=1

I doubt that anyone will be able to flash a 2x2x6 into anything more than a 2x2x6 with more supported formats, but hey... if it is stock and a newer firmware adds something for you, why not flash it?

The most important tricks to getting support for the older stuff are A] USA Philips dropped support long ago; B] Philips' Monitors division used to support the drives before the CD/CDRW division came into existence.

Thanks for the post, the site looks very interesting.

Any reader of this thread will need to consider how current your site is, at least in the case of CDD3610 - it is not current. 5 Years ago, Philips link posted newer firmware for CDD3610 - I downloaded v3.09 firmware; my Philips CDD3160 drive is running v3.09, I verified the version several ways.
Quote:
CDD3610: IDE3.09 3.09.cvt 22/12/1998
1. PHILIPS CDD3610 CD-R/RW
Before I flashed v3.09 into the drive, I had been using v3.08. I know that those are definitely 2 different versions, because v3.09 improved the drive performance when I changed from v3.08

From your link, jan 70, I see CDD3610 is listed with older version v3.08 (as of right now, and I've never been to the site - I am not caching an older version of the page).

I would encourage anyone to consider the Philips link first, when looking for fimware for older Philips drives.

The latest firmware for you drive can be found here and it is located on an Philips server.

Also take an look at this link.

The CDD3610 is also the same drive as Traxdata CD-RW 2260Plus (Phillips CDD3610). Maybe that firmware can do some help. It can de dowloaded here.

Hope it will help you futher..

Why, yes, that link does contain the v3.09 firmware...... When I visited the www.p4c.philips.com site, the search engine does not find anything. Search for cdd3610, find nothing; search for 3610, find nothing.

That is one reason why consumers cannot obtain support from Philips, because there is no way to 'find' this model.

That is why I posted the first link to a philips search engine that actually finds stuff.

When I visit the www.consumer.philips.com page, I again get the same problem there: search for cdd3610 find nothing, search for 3610 find nothing.

How could anyone find that?!?

You are the guru!

At least my first link gives people the opportunity to find the firmware for other Philips drives... you probably won't want to reply to every person who might otherwise post asking for firmware for 2x4x8 or 4x2x12 or 4x4x12 or 4x4x16 or .....

Phillips PCA460 RW --> Yamaha CRW4416E

Several years ago I found firmware at CDCopyworld to flash my Phillips 4X4X16 to a Yamaha 4X4X16. I did this because Yamaha was releasing more updates than Phillips.

This drive reads/writes CD+G perfectly

The firmware is: 1.0j
These firmwares updated by the trailing letter. (I may have earlier ones like: (1.0h, 1.0g, ect), I have to look)
I have it on an old CD-ROM if anyone needs it, reply here or PM me.

Jon

The Phillips 3610 was also sold as HP 7200i. I know, I still own one. I also found the 3.08 Phillips firmware in a dungeon on my HD. If you are interested, drop me a mail, and you can have it.

very helpful thread here

Thanks to all who posted above. Of the many links in this thread, the magic one for me was this one:

http://www.p4c.philips.com/files/c/c...51_fus_eng.exe

Exactly the file I needed.

That wasn't the end of the story though, also found out that an aspi layer was required to update the firmware and this site from another thread here cleared that up:

http://aspi.radified.com

For me, the firmware update would not run recognize the latest (4.71.2) aspi layer at all. Only forcing the version to 4.6 as described on the site above made it work.

Re: Very Old Philips drives firmware

http://cdrfaq.org/faq05.html#S5-1-4 - one of the best

http://www.geocities.com/SiliconVall...93/newbios.htm - and the original "old philips drive" fansite - talking about fans, there's also a hint on fitting a cooling fan.
