Unable to burn Mini DVD-R disc BenQ 1620

Here is my problem I purchased a Iomagic DVD writer about 6 mos ago. Nero Info Tool ID shows it as a BenQ 1620 B7C9.
For the last 6 months it has worked flawlessly. With any media brand. + or - R or RW But they were always standard DVD 4.3 GB size.

I recently purchased some (25) Mini DVD-R discs by Velocity 1.4 GB (3 inch Dia.) When I try to burn an 400 MB DVD (mpg-2) file to this mini disk as a data file to DVD I get a failed burn Actually it never even starts the burn. The drive just spits it out and Nero says
"Could not perform start of Disc-at-once" "burn process faild at 2.4x"

I have upgraded my 1620 to Firmware B7V9 and still can not burn to Mini DVD-R (1.4 GB) disks. Nero
Below is the Nero Log
Thanks in advance for any hints as to my problem. E-mail to IOMagic/BenQ and NERO were very unresposive. One says firmware problem other say software problem and I am wondering if the media is the problem
"Velocity Mini DVD-R 1.4 GB"

Re: Unable to burn Mini DVD-R disc BenQ 1620

B7C9 must be an old firmware as i havent seen this up for download upgrade to B7T9(some people say this is the best still) or B7V9 (latest)

It could be the media as there doesnt seem to be any Manufacturere information at all not even a MID code which is strange.

Re: Unable to burn Mini DVD-R disc BenQ 1620

I have upgraded my firmware to B7V9 for this run. No change in results
The media is labeled
VELOCITY Mini DVD-R 1.4 GB for Camcorder and PC
Label states Disc conforms to General Version 2 what ever that means ?

Re: Unable to burn Mini DVD-R disc BenQ 1620

At least media without any media code id is not expected to give good results. Hard to say if this is is caused by possible bad/missing support for mini DVDs, the missing MediaID, possible non standard conform media or Nero. Maybe you could try to burn it on a different burner to see what happens.

Re: Unable to burn Mini DVD-R disc BenQ 1620

I do not have another internal burner but I do have a stand alone DVD recorder and it also rejects the disc as "invalid disc" So I guess if a disc does not have a Media Code ID any burner or software can not deal with it.
I think I will try to return the discs to Amazon and see if they will exempt them from their 30-day limit policy. I would like to contact VELOCITY who ever they are and give them this info.
Anyway thanks for looking at the problem
