Took the plunge, ordered a DW1620...

Been wanting a drive that has good burn quality as well as the ability to do disc quality scanning again through Nero CD/DVD Speed so I took the plunge and ordered a BenQ 1620 in black. I had to get a refurbished unit from newegg since the black drives always seem like they are out of stock in retail form. Hopefully it being a refurbed drive won't be a problem - had a couple refurbed cd-rw drives before and they always seemed to function well.

My question: Is there any forseeable problem with hooking the drive on as a slave? My NEC-ND2500A may still be my main burner for a bit (maybe) but I want the BenQ in as the primary reader / disc quality and as a secondary burner for when I get a batch of media the NEC seems to not like as well that the BenQ might be able to handle better - is there a problem with the drive being attached as a slave? I did get a Serial ATA to IDE adapter with it figuring on hooking up one of my old 40 gigabyte IDE hard drives but maybe I'll leave both DVD Burners in as Masters (the BenQ on the Serial ATA Adapter) and my Samsung CD-RW/DVD combo in as the reader, hrmp.... I'll have to decide later - what would you all do? hehe

Hmm, have Benq manufactured different coloured bezels for other markets etc?

I may be needing a dark blue or grey.

Now that's funny...

Braxas, sorry for the intermezo. I tried to hooked my 1620 as slave without any problem. However, personally I would put 1620 as master and 2500 as slave if they are in the same IDE.

zevia > Not really but thought about looking for a black BenQ bezel. I have my BenQ as master and my Nec 2510 as slave same IDE cable no problems.......even on the fly no problems. You can use either for reader and burner combinations.

Re: Took the plunge, ordered a DW1620...

I just ordered a 1620 today also. OEM version off of Newegg. I guess I will flash it to the retail firmware, just for the hell of it. It should get here in a couple of days. Newegg is always fast shipping to me.

Re: Took the plunge, ordered a DW1620...

Bah. Called my dad and told him I just bought a DVD burner. He told me he was going to buy me one for Xmas. So, I cancelled my order, and gave him the link to the 1620 at Newegg
