Philips DVDR824P burning problems

I got one of these drives and updated to the latest BenQ firmware (B3LC-2) to allow me to use some DVD-r discs.

The problem i'm having is that discs won't burn properly. Either nero (version 6)will freeze at a random percent of progress, or else the disc will burn but then be unreadable in my drive after (my computer freezes when trying to access it, but nero disc check is able to check the contents of the disc..)

Should I try other firmware? Any other suggestions?

Welcome
What media are you using ? Use DVD Identifier to produce a report about the media.
Post the text output of Nero Infotool as text file attachment using the Manage Attatchments button so we can have a look at your config.

Re: Philips DVDR824P burning problems

thanks

Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:INFOSMART01]
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Disc & Book Type : [DVD-R] - [DVD-R]
Manufacturer Name : [Info Smart Technology]
Manufacturer ID : [INFOSMART01]
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4.71 GB (4.38 GiB)]

I'm using those orange BulkPaq disks...not great I know, but still shouldn't be causing problems like this right?

I have a problem with Nero InfoTool...it's not letting me select my cd writer or the philips dvd writer :\ just my image drive, which is currently disabled. The dropdown box in InfoTool just lists the image drive.

It's saying my image drive is E:, but E: is the philips drive...

Re: Philips DVDR824P burning problems

INFOSMART01 is crap. Your InfoTool problem is strange, but there is no need to select the drive. Just save and post the result.

Re: Philips DVDR824P burning problems

Removing the NVidea IDE driver could help.

Back using the Microsoft IDE drivers now, and same problem. Lockup at 32% with a new disc, pc freeze up :\

Re: Philips DVDR824P burning problems

Agree with ala42 regarding media and nForce IDE drivers.

Still, in you InfoTool output there is a strange thing; nero aspi (wnaspi32.dll) is missing...
Code:
ASPI Information
----------------
System ASPI : ASPI is installed and working properly

wnaspi32.dll : 4.60 (1021) 45056 bytes September 10, 1999
ASPI32.sys : 4.60 (1021) 25244 bytes September 10, 1999
Winaspi.dll : 4.60 (1021) 5600 bytes September 10, 1999
Wowpost.exe : 4.60 (1021) 4672 bytes September 10, 1999

Nero ASPI : ASPI is not installed
Nero wnaspi32.dll can be d/l here.

Reason why only "image drive" shows up can also be related to (burning) software conflicts...

Re: Philips DVDR824P burning problems

Yeah, I hadn't realised that Alcohol 120% came with its own disc image drive. Disabled that, removed the Nvidia IDE drivers and InfoTool has started to work properly.

I hadn't been aware that NeroAspi was needed...I've been burning cd-r discs no problem without it.

I just downloaded the file and went to play it in my Nero folder..but apparently it's already there did a replace anyway..

InfoTool still says it's not present..
