drewstylz, can you please link us to the B7**.CVT firmware you are talking about.

From what I can see, TDB don't host any rpc1 1620 firmware in .cvt format. Only .exe files, and these you can't load into MCSE right now...

Whoops my mistake. I guess I can't type either...

I'm using the B7T9* firmware from the unofficial benq firmware page (though I have been visiting TDB's page hoping for a P3.4 cvt heh)

There is no B79R (or B7R9) firmware I know of, and they are not on TDB site. Which firmware are you using ? Did your media work before with the unpatched firmware ?

        - added support for BENQ DVD DD EW162I 47L9
        - added support for BENQ DVD DD DW1620 B7P9
        - added support for PHILIPS DVDR1640P P3.2
        - added support for PHILIPS DVDR1640P P3.4
The patch mechanism is identical to the one used in V 1.0.3.5 for B7T9. The main job was to manually check that the patch mechanism also works with these firmwares. I have flashed MCSE modified files of these four firmwares to check the drive is still alive after flashing, but have not done any burning tests.
Where can we find the P3.4 Philips cvt at?

Yes, swaping is lossless. The latest addons use the same mechanism already used with B7T9 in 1.0.3.5 before.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

ah I don't know what was wrong before. I repatched and reflashed the firmware and the swapped +R strats work for me now except I think WOPC kicks in and won't let me write at the speed I want to >_<

I still have one problem though. MXLRG02@MXLRG03 freezes at 2% and sits there. Any suggestions on this one?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

To guess the write speeds from the Benq822/Philips855 media code tables I need some input. Please post the used firmware revision and the available write speeds for some media codes.

Thanks. All the disks just allowing 4x burning are missing in the firmware media code table.

Could someone please post -R speeds for the 822/855 firmware ?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

MediaCodeSpeedEdit V 1.0.3.7 adds support for Benq/Philips .exe flasher for 1620 type firmwares, so there is no need to search for .cvt files anymore to change the write strategies to allow higher DVD write speeds. The changes are applied directly to the .exe flasher which can then be used to update the drive. There is no crossflash support added.
Code:
Changelog

1.0.3.7 19 Feb 2005
        - added direct .exe file patching for the supported Benq/Philips 1620
firmwares, .cvt files are still supported
        - cvt header with bad length info are accepted now
        - fixed crash when changing speed settings before selecting a media
          code, thanks Pac

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

The +R support for the 1610 firmwares is not enabled in the released version, as I still need an alpha tester to try it.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

ala42, thank-you for making this tool. It is the most interesting tool for the BenQ 1620. However, may I ask added on support for the +/-RW :P hehe, but even without it, its the best tool for the 1620 for sure.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq drives

To access and modify the +R tables a critical patch is applied to the firmware. This patch gets enabled and released only for firmwares that are tested with this patch. I do not want to see dead drives because of using MCSE, so you have to wait until I have verified the patch is save with B7U9.
This reminds me of something... I still need an alpha tester for the 1610 B8T9 .
