Welcome to cdfreaks
The current support for BCIB will not be changed due to free space problems in the firmware.

Which improvement do you see in the 1655 BCIB firmware that BCHB does not offer ?

For me the BCIB firmware is better than the BCHB firmware because it doesn't suffer from the same burnspeed-drops-to-4x problem as the BCHB firmware.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

When 1655 was manufactured, Benq announced it would stop production of burners.
So I think that 1655 firmwares are not perfect.

So, BCIB firmware seems to be the best, but not the perfection (with DVD+R 16x Philips).
And my 1655 was going to already die...

It should. I have an old version of the program
from Sept. 2006 that does.
If the fw will load and show the MID's it does.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Lossless write strategy swapping not working (or is this normal)?

I have a Benq DW1620 with B7W9 firmware. I recently bought some verbatim DL 8x disks. The B7W9 firmware does not have an entry for this media, so I was trying to add the MKM-003 ID code using MediaCodeEdit.

I can rename the existing MKM-001 ID code to MKM-003, and that appears to work correctly. However, if I double-click one of the other +R9 media codes and change the write strategy to MKM-001, the MKM-001 entry gets renamed MKM-0x1.

I thought lossless write strategy swapping would allow me to preserve the MKM-001 media ID? Is there any way I can have both MKM-001 and MKM-003 media codes in the firmware?

Thanks for your help, and this great program!

Will MCSE support 1655 BCIB firmware? Maybe is other way to patch this firmware to burn MKM001@8x?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

I just want to say thanks for a great tool, I have used it on my Samsung 203B & my Pioneer 215D. I have just purchased 3 x EW-1621 in what looks like original BenQ external enclosures. As I am brand new to BenQ ownership, I am trying to keep my chances of screwing up to a minimum. They currently have 47F9, 47L9 & 47N9, is 47P9 the last firmware for this drive? The pic shows that I loaded RPC1 patched 47P9 into MCSE, but even when I loaded the 47P9 stock the only patch available was read speed, is this correct? As these drives are external, should I be flashing from safe mode? Now I might not have seen this before, but another thing that interests me is the Bootcode Rev, showing ATAPI Dvd DL DW1600 FS02?

Yes.

Yes. The Benq drives already support bitsetting and MCSE does not support the RPC1 patch. You can swap media codes as usual with MCSE.

The EW-1621 and DW-1620 use a DW-1600 bootcode. IIRC the 1600 has the same hardware.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Thank you for your replies & again thank everybody involved with this program. I have read a lot about 47L9 being the best firmware for these drives, but I would be interested in knowing what you think?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Can you delete specific codes from the table? Not swap a strategy, but just delete? Is the only way to do that by renaming?

My purpose is to hack solidburn, so that it is more flexible than normal. The problem with SB is that you can only turn it completely on or off, when a better strategy would be to allow you to only turn it on only for certain media codes that are problematic. The only way to do this is by deleting those codes from the table and making them unknown, so that SB will kick in for them while leaving the standard OFF/ON settings in place.

For example, RITEK F16 is a very problematic code that burns inconsistently without SB. I don't want to turn SB on for all known media, I just want turn SB on for RITEK F16. The only way to do that is to get rid of RITEK F16 in the media table. Anyone tried this method before, as an alternative to strategy swapping?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

There is nothing wrong about renaming a MID to avoid it to match with the MID of a disk.

Write strategy swapping...
Thanks ala42 for reminding us.

Note. Nothing new for any "older" user, because we've been doing this since time of code65536 and Quikee [NEC] days.
