No, there is already a solution, have a look here.

Strangely enough this Staples bought drive, clearly labeled BenQ DW1655, has firmware GCGB and not the expected B-series (BCDB, BCGB or BCHB).
The OEM drives often have G-series firmwares, so this is not really strange.

Hi
Welcome to the forum.
Take a look here. The G*** series f/w is for third parties like I/OMagic. You'll be able to BQFlasher & official .exe f/w if you wish.

when i load BCIC for 1650 into media code speed edit, it only lists 1 item:
PHILIPS RW8-003
is there something wrong here or...?

What's wrong is, ala42 has not had time
to rewrite the program to work with this
new firmware. When he does he'll post
it in this thread.

Patience Nekrosoft, I know how you feel, I can't wait either, but Pianoman is right, ala will do it when he can. He doesn't earn a living from his program, he does it for all of us, so lets all chill and wait until the man is ready!

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

The problem with the new 1655 firmware is that the code and media table grew in size. The free space inside the firmware binary needed to unpack the compressed media table to make it patch friendly is too small, so I have to change the used mechanism somehow. This takes some time I do not have during the week.

Anyone with a 1655 drive brave enough to test the new mechanism ? Drop me a PM. I have to warn you, this could kill your drive, so only respond if you can stand a potential loss.

Already saw that - damn!

What's so difficult with this f/w?
Why does BCIB work, and BCIC not?

I'm just curious..

(And I need my BenQ 1655 for ripping )

EDIT: Nevertheless - THANKS FOR YOUR EFFORTS!

BCIC is smaller, so the expanded media table fits.

Hi ala42,
Am I doing something wrong, or does your great program
not work with the Test firmware for the LiteOn 160P6S?
