MediaCodeSpeedEdit 1.0.4.7 - swaps are not working

Hi ala42,

First of all, thank you for this great tool. I was working with the previous version and B7T9 all day yesterday and it worked great. However, with version 1.0.4.7 and B7V9 firmware, when I change the strategy of CMCMAGAF1 with TYG02, Nero and Qsuite both show the burn speed still at 4X. With the previous version and B7T9, they were both showing 16X as the max speed and I was using 8X to burn with no problem. Hopefully you'll be able to fix the roblem quickly. Thanks in advance.

Best regards

I know about this problem. It is listed under known problems in the first post in this thread.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Just a query for ala42, did you change the speed patching code from 1.0.4.6 to 1.0.4.7?

Its just I noticed a difference between the checksums of one patched with 1.0.4.6 and one with 1.0.4.7 by the B7V9 installer. Curious thats all.

Still sad at the virtual demise of Benq..

No, it is identical.

MCSE adds a patch friendly +R table when loading a supported Benq firmware version. B7V9 is not supported in 1.0.4.6, so this change was not made.

You could also change some of the displayed media codes.

Aha thanks for your insightful reply, ala42 ! Will get me the new MCSE version as soon as I return to Holland this evening
Thanks for taking away some of my confusion here !
Keep up the good work.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Is there any chance you could reduce the readspeed slightly on DVD+RW media (with the speedpatch), in my experience this is the only media type which the drive seems to have trouble reading at 16x at the end of the disk (although I have no DVD-RW I suspect it would be similarly affected).

Maybe limit to 12x if possible?

I've tried a number of different MIDs and nearly all will result in read errors at the end of the disk, CD/DVD speed scan at 16x bear this out with PO errors (and hugely increaded PI/PF rates) clearly visable which dont occur at 8x or 12x.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

very strange...cdspeed gives me the following error: Read of scrambled section with out authentication (056F03). I am getting the same error with both my nec and my benq. looks like i may have some other issues.

Is this a typo or is it safe to assume you have a pre-release build we should look for soon?

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

Hi guys,

i tried today to change some speed seetings with your tool and somehow i was not able to change any writing speeds. it seems that i did something wrong and i hope you can help me

i have a benq 1620 with current firmware B7U9. i wanted to add a lower writing speed for a OPTODISC OR8. Right now it is set that you can burn 8x and 4x time and i wanted also 2x included.
i started the "MCSE" V 1.0.4.8. loaded the firmware (B7U9) and selected the Optodisc and i was not able to change any writing speed. All writing speeds were greyed except 8x and 4x and i could not chose any additional (like 2x).
I tried the same with two other dvd+r.
Then i used the DVD Identifier to read out the media code for the optodisc and tried to replace it with existing one and i also could not change the defined writing speeds.

who can help me?

If I'm not mistaken the slowest burn speed for +/-Rs is 4X. In addition, 2.4X is the slowest speed for +/-RWs. Therefore, 2X -RWs will not work with a BenQ drive.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

hi beach-hobo,

in general you are not mistaken the lowest speed for +/-R is 4x but in the last firmware there are some -R with 2x defined. the point is that i can not add ANY additional writing speed.

Re: MediaCodeSpeedEdit support for Benq/Philips DVD-Writers

The firmware media tables have no entry for 2x speed. For -R media, 2x write speed is reported if 8x is available, at least with B7T9. B7U9 might be different.
