Great one COdeKing!

One small comment (for now). Since DMA problem would affect burn and read speed, so it would be nice to modify this faq:

General
11. My burns are really slow. What could be the problem?

11. My BenQ drive is burning and/or reading very slowly. What could be the problem?

Re: Maintaining the BenQ FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

Good job...

However, I have several comments :

1- for the leds, seems that the FAQ talks about BenQ 1620 leds (flashing red/green). I read that it's different with a philips 1640 retail drive (BenQ 1620 clone) : there's two leds but maybe I'm wrong ?

2- when talking about firmwares (B7T9, etc.), I think the BenQ model (1620) must be added.

3- the FAQ could add some words about BenQ 1610 (no DL capabilities, as in BenQ FAQ), 1625 (lightscribe, no 12X in current firmwares as reported by ala !), 1640 (DVD+RW 8X/DVD-RW 6X/DVD+R DL 8X, DVD-R DL, CD-RW 32X). Also the BenQ 1640 is smaller and is totaly different from 1620 :

BenQ 1600/1620 : ................ BenQ 1640 :

Ref. : http://homepage2.nifty.com/yss/dw1640/dw1640.htm
(Maybe you could add a direct link to BenQ FAQ. I don't see it.)

4- BenQ 1640 firmware BSHB not burning well DVD+R DL MKM01 from verbatim could be a warning (MKM01 price is so high !) :
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=138150
Firmware BSGB is better for that...

Thanks codeking and others contributors !

Re: Maintaining the BenQ FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

I am not sure if it has been brought up but there seems to be a problem with the unofficial benq firmware page that is linked to in the FAQ, when I go to it all I get is a blank page with the following at the top in big bold letters: "Bad Request (Invalid Hostname)". Just thought I would let you know.

Also are thee any plans to update the re-badged list in the future? I was just wondering as I have a new Philips dirve in the new PC and was wondering how to find out if it re-badged.

Re: Maintaining the BenQ/Philips FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

Sorry for bumping this thread...

I think it would be a good idea to create a "BenQ/Philips software" section in FAQ.

Situation in this aspect as it looks now is a big mess.
Some of us have put links to useful tools/software in our signatures, we are also posting them in numerous posts, and all this makes both our and newbies search very difficult, time-consuming and not visible enough.
zevia, please put them all in one place, the FAQ thread.

Thanks

Re: Maintaining the BenQ/Philips FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

1. Maybe add a little info on Overburn settings IE: Turn off Solidburn ect.
2. Linky for Lightscribe info/How to use and software for those of us with OEM versions.

From us newbies err rookie ( newbie with a dw1640 and definitely pleased ) , just like to say thanks to all who contributed to Benq FAQ as it has helped me get the most out of my drive , definite improvement over my Lg4160b which was relegated to ripping and cd burns .. Keep up the good work ..

Re: Maintaining the BenQ/Philips FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

This is not a biggy but I just have to post it.

Today while performing some tests I left the MA/SL/CS jumper at wrong position and my drive was not recognized by QSuite, CD-Speed and burning applications. Not sure it was recognized by windoze explorer because I remembered the wrong setting of jumper as soon as I run into problems.

Details; drive DW1640, connected on IDE cable as master (end of cable) jumpered to SL (slave).

As a side note, I recall seing quite a few posts lately telling (BenQ) drive is not recognized by windoze/burning application.

My 1650 came with jumper set to slave out-of-the box. For me, that was convenient

Me too, if I had an empty "slave" connector.

But I think my problem came from mismatch connector position on IDE cable and jumper setting on drive. First mentioned was master (end of cable), second (jumper) was at slave.
Sorry if that wasn't clear enough in my post above.

I mentioned that, because it has not been usual, that a new drive was shipped with jumper setting as slave. Normally, a brand new drive is set as master, if you take it out of the box. These new Benqs are different in that case. It would be interesting, if other users have experienced the same.

Request for addition in BenQ FAQ (firmware related)

hi there admins and mods of this website!

i wonder if u could add some quick info (explanations) to the benqfaq about the BCDC, BCFC, BCHC, BCIC firmwares...

i believe that newcomers to this forum will consider it confusing going through the threads here, and seeing ppl recommending different firmwares w/o further info... personally (as a newbie to benq) i started believing the third letter in these firmware names repressented a unique feature (like silent reading or rpc1 support), since ive never before come across such a confusing firmware-ordering system...

if u put a quick addition in the faq it should suffice to minimize the confusion... example:

Q: What does BCDC, BCFC, BCHC and BCIC represent?
A: These are the names of BenQ's firmware revisions. Newer revisions are represented by the third letter. (e.g. BCIC is newer than BCDC)

personally im lucky that i found this thread after an hour of searching: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=201062

thanks in advance if u add the info to the faq...

Thanks zevia and C0deKing for the updated BenQ/Philips FAQ.

BTW, all links to "Unofficial BenQ Firmware Page"...(dvdpro.club.st) are dead.
But hoppy.tk has a nice collection of .cvt firmwares.

Re: Maintaining the BenQ/Philips FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

Sorry to dig up old thread but while searching for Booktype Management in the FAQ's it's not there Yes i know it's in QSuite but i personally don't use QSuite. I like to have Booktype Management instead. I scoured BenQ's site and finally found it. So if Zevia or whomever would like to add it to the FAQ's here's a link > http://www.benq.de/support/downloads...nloads&dtype=A

Re: Maintaining the BenQ/Philips FAQ... contributions, suggestions, comments, etc.

In the FAQ, where rebadged drives are listed, it currently says:

BenQ DW1620: Philips DVDR1640, MSI DR16-B, Shuttle CR40, HP 630C
BenQ DW1625: Philips DVDR16LS, HP 640I
BenQ DW1640: Philips DVDR1648, Plextor PX-740A, Sony DRU-810A
BenQ DW1650: Philips DVDR1660, Philips SPD1400, Lite-ON DW1650-488
BenQ DW1655: Philips DVDR1668

This should be modified to say:

BenQ DW1620: Philips DVDR1640, Philips DVD8601, MSI DR16-B, Shuttle CR40, HP 630C
BenQ DW1625: Philips DVDR16LS, Philips DVD8651, HP 640I
BenQ DW1640: Philips DVDR1648, Philips DVD8701, Plextor PX-740A, Sony DRU-810A
BenQ DW1650: Philips DVDR1660, Philips DVD8801, Philips SPD1400, Sony DRU-810A-R, Lite-On DW1650-488
BenQ DW1655: Philips DVDR1668, Philips DVD8851
