BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, Just got my benq dw1620 from a local store at CD and DVD Burners forum; I was quite pleased with my liteon 1213@1653 which has a reasonable burn quality (45€ !) on most discs, but having seen that the Benq dw1620 was very good and I saw it at 49€ I decided to buy one, I've just come back with it and have burnt

Just got my benq dw1620 from a local store

I was quite pleased with my liteon 1213@1653 which has a reasonable burn quality (45€ !) on most discs, but having seen that the Benq dw1620 was very good and I saw it at 49€ I decided to buy one, I've just come back with it and have burnt my first disc, first coaster... OK not good quality discs Prodye Black V8, I used my usual program for burning set at maximum, and was surprised to see that it only took 6min20 as these discs only work at 8x with my liteon... well the result was that it is not readable on any of my players ... OK so lets try 2nd disc, still interested in seeign if it burns low quality media better than my liteon I tried a Hyundai fake TY02 which had reasonable burns on my liteon at 8x but not at 4x the burner also accepted to burn it at 16x so I started the burn and it seemed to take the same time to burn as in 4x and has just failed !
Well I'm a bit pissed off I'm going to upgrade to the latest firmware (current = B7N9) and if necessary change the brun speeds ...
I'm used to leaving my program at max and the burner should not allow it to burn faster than the media allows..

I hope that I have not got a bad drive...

Re: Just got my benq dw1620 from a local store

I've flashed to the latest firmware and it still offers 16x burning with my discs so I've set a trial burn at 8x with my fake TY -R disc its at 82% in 12min16 so burning at 4x not 8x if the burn does not succeed or is bad I wont be surprised as I got much better results at 8x than at 4x with my liteon , maybe it just needs setting to 8x in the firmware I'll post the kprobe test as soon as it has finished if it does not fail

ok will send some kprobe results soon (done them on a computer without acces to the net seems that it was just the discs that it does not like, I've got good results with 3 different medias.
