Installing Linux from BenQ dw1640

Hi,

I recently purchased BenQ dw1640 for my home PC.
When I tried to install Linux (Red Hat 9.0) by inserting the Linux
installer CD (Disc 1) into the dw1640, the installation proceeded
upto choosing Language and Keyboard layout, but then said

"Red Hat CD was not found in any of your drives"

What does this mean ? Booting from the CD, and unable to find
itself ?

I thought you can't install Linux from DVD writer. Need CD drives.
But friends said DVD writers can be used to install Linux alright.
They had used the likes of Liteon ...

What's the problem ?

thats quite strange but it sounds as though redhat dosnt have any compatible drivers for the drive.
Redhat 9 is quite old. have you tried anything else like suse 10.0, mandriva 2006 or Linspire?

not yet. I have got Fedora Core 4 ISOs on DVD. Maybe I will burn the CDs
and give another try.

Re: Installing Linux from BenQ dw1640

I was able to boot and run Ubuntu 5.10 (Live CD) from my 1640. Is your Redhat 9 CD in good condition/good burn? Obviously, the install was able to boot and run and proceed all the way up to Language/keyboard drivers so the 1640 must be OK. Just a guess, but I think something's wrong with the CD itself.
