I thought I would start one for Nexperia BenQ lovers, because we treasure our Nexperia BenQs as much or more than Sanyo Plextor owners love theirs (and of course, some of you are both).

Note that, for those unaware, the only real Plextor drives use a Sanyo chipset, and the only real BenQ drives use a Nexperia chipset. All other drives that bear the respective names "BenQ" or "Plextor" should not be considered members of the set (Note that, there is one cross-over drive, which ties the two families together. The Plextor PX-740A is really a rebadged BenQ DW1640).

Now, on to the question at hand. How many Nexperia BenQ drives do you own?

With my latest purchase, I now own 12 Nexperia BenQs, 9 of which are DW1640s, and 3 that are DW1650s. I do not own a DW1620, DW1625, or DW1655.

I own 4 BenQ DW1640 now. That'll be 7 when the 3 from Unity Electronics arrive in a few days.

I do own a DW1650 (retail) and a Philips DVR1660 P1 (retail also). The Philips is sitting in its retail box in case my Benq fails

Just curious - for those of you with 1650/1655s - do any of them have read speed drops every 0.2 GB or so when doing disc quality scans in Nero CD/DVD Speed? I went through I think about 4 in a row that did that, and eventually said screw it and have stuck with just 1640s ever since.

...my 1650s definitely do, I can't remember with the 1640, so long since I used it.

I think it's a firmware thing, at least I know it's been discussed in here before

I have not used my Benq 1655/1640 for at least 1 year or so. I just started to use them back when i bought Nexstar enclosures for them. Yesterday I noticed the rip speed with 1655 vs 1640. Big difference. I have the latest firmware update.

Oh yes we have that famous speed drop, how can a 1650 owner live without it .

Yes, if you're going to do a lot of ripping or quality scanning, a DW1640 with BSLB or BEFB is the better choice, because that combo has no speed dips or other reading issues.

BenQ was shutdown after it's aquisition by Lite-On, and before they could fix some of the bugs that still plague the 1650 and 1655.

The DW165x is still a great drive, but in comparison to the DW1640, it never had the chance to mature.

I was never greedy with buying them.

Been using BenQ's since 2004. The 1640 was always my favorite model.

And of course Quikee was the bomb with the BenQ tools he made I still have them thanks to pinto2 helping me get them back after my unfortunate HDD loss.

I need to ask a question of someone. My hard drive crashed and since I put another one in my cd drive and my dvd drve is both showing as a cdrom drive. I have a BenQ and Liteon. Please help.
