Hardware problems w/ BenQ DW-1625
Hi, im new here and this looks like a great place to find a solution to my problem, here i go:

A few days ago my dad got his cd stuck in the drive, no big deal, i took it out using a pin and opened the tray. The BenQ was having some problems reading some of his disc (i never had a prob with it) so i took it out looked at the back. And it turns out it was on CSelect, the whole time. So i switched it to master and put my other Cd drive on slave. However, when i started up the computer it wasnt detecting the hardware. Nor was it even in device manager or anythng.

Now, i think i tried just about every combination and seeing as i have two spare CDdrives and this BenQ i did alot of combinations. i tried BenQ alone on Master,Slave,Cselect, i put both on Cselect, i slaved Ben and mastered CDdrive. I did a lot of combos. BUT nothing seemed to work.

After searching around this forum , i noticed alot of posts about firmware and all that. So i may be thinking the reason why its not detecting is it because when i put it back in, it needs the newest driver(firmware?) to detect it. So i went to the BenQ site and downloaded it. But when i open "BBIA" it says hardware not detected.

I also looked in my Nero Infotool and oddly enough theres no secondary IDE channel showing up?

This is extremely weird because one seconds its working a simple unplug and replug and then its not working. Im really lost as to what to do. Hope you can help

Welcome to cdfreaks.

Some older IDE cables are designed for CS operation. Not saying your is but...

First you can try to put everything back as it once was. Also go into Device Manager and delete Secondary IDE channel (if it's shown at all). Restart and let windoze install default M$ IDE drivers.

For further assistance we have to know more about your system so please download latest Nero InfoTool and post your system configuration (click diskette symbol at top of InfoTool window, save output as .txt file, post here in [code] (#) tags).

Read this thread how to manage attachments.

Well, my friend brought a spare IDE and put that in and VOILA it worked. But now when it burns it always gets some problem on the LAST TRACK. It starts to say "invalid burn state"(?) or something like that followed by another error or two and then it says failed could not burn last track. Which kinda sucks.

Put a empty DVD disc in drive and post Nero InfoTool output as requested above, please.

Also, burn a "create data disc" (F9) with CD-DVD Speed and post the burn graph.

hmmm weird i was editing my post and then my time expired...well ill show you the log of the error i saved then ill see something else. Weird thing is the simulation works...but burning doesnt.

Thanks flipzoso for all info posted.

To start with, your burnings errors are not related to your 1625 drive. Most probably your setup and burning software/media causing this.

I have a similar compu (home network server, even older box), having no problem to burn CD's (at 48x) and DVD's at 8x.
Your box is running under a lot of (memory) load, old slow HDD and not the best burning software for your needs.

My suggestion:
- Get new (80 conductor) IDE cables
- Move your HDD's to primary IDE channel, WD drive as "C" because this is your fastest HDD (Maxtor is only ATA-33).
- Put 1625 as master on secondary IDE channel.
- Reinstall windoze from scratch and load only the progz you really need, get latest Nero 6.x.x.x full version.

Depending on your other hardware/setup this might give you problemfree 8x, maybe 12x DVD burns and full speed on CD's.

After multiple testings:
Everything works except this combo
Audio/Data CD-R buring as Track at Once
HOWEVER, if i burn a Audio/Data CD-R as Disc at Once it works. So go iduno? i guess ill live with Disc at once
