Re: Fast System & Slow Drive ?

Check if DMA is enabled. Moreover, you can defrag your HDD.

Another thing that can avoid buffer emptying is to avoid disc accesses when you are burning. For example, if you are downloading a torrent on the same disc containing data you are burning, this creates a bottleneck, and it can happen that the disc is not able to send data to the burner enough fast.

Re: Fast System & Slow Drive ?

same thing happens to me, i have tried fixing it but its still happens, only with my 1655 drive, not with my liteon 165p6s drive. I have just come to accept it as i still get very good burns with my 1655 drive (according to my 165p6s scanning at maximum in cddvd speed) I have two sata II drives in a raid0 array and i defrag weekly so i know its not the hdds. But it doesnt bother me like i said, i just scanned a dvd burned on my 1655 and it had only 159 PIFs and a perfect TRT. As long as your getting good burns i think thats all that matters

Re: Fast System & Slow Drive ?

I don't know if it can be useful, but if you use ImgBurn as burning software, you can rise the buffer size. 40 MB should be a good value.

Device buffer dropping several times during the burn is perfectly normal. Even with WOPC OFF, there is is still some OPC operation with most MIDs, say 4-5 OPC points for a full burn (With WOPC ON there are many more occurences). Of course the device buffer drops at each OPC point. ALL modern burners do this, this is not a symptom of incorrect operation..

If you really can't live with it, switch to a LiteOn burner, it's possible to have a "flat" burning operation with these, but then I wouldn't trust the burning quality too much, unless the media is top-notch and pristine. If that.

OPC/WOPC's goal is to enhance the burning quality, let it do its trick, it's IMO better than trying to get faster burns at all costs. My two cents.

Trouble is when the other buffer drops...

Nice thing about my Lite-On LH-20A1H (and perhaps other models as well) is that when Online Hyper-Tuning (their version of OPC) is enabled.. it doesn't slow down the burn time like what I've seen with my BenQ DW1655.

In fact, the last disc I burned with OHT on.. took 3 seconds LESS than with OHT off! Pretty nifty, I think.

I don't know what you're referring to then. BOTH drives have device buffer (and speed) dropouts during normal burning operation, at each OPC point, as I already explained. If you noticed a strong difference between both drives, then you should explain better what you're experiencing, because from the limited info in your first post it looks to me like there's nothing wrong at all..!

The best thing to do would be to use the "create disc" feature of CDSpeed and post the resulting graph. Worth a thousand words.

Re: Fast System & Slow Drive ?

what exactly does the buffer size do might i ask? Is that how much ram imgburn is using while burning? Because i have 3Gigs of ram and dont mind giving it a 150 or even bigger buffer size if possible. My buffer was originally at 40mb.
