BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default? at CD and DVD Burners forum; I just flashed my DW1640 to BSKB, and I was wondering whether there is any reason I should not always use SolidBurn and set everything to DVD-ROM? Is SolidBurn compatible with CD-Rs?

Re: Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default?

Last time I checked BenQ bitset all + media to DVD-ROM anyway by default.

As for solidburn well everyone is still testing it at the moment best thing to do is to try it out with your own media, does it work with CDR's I cannot say for sure but I dont think so only DVD's.

No, Solidburn only works with DVD-R and DVD+R media. And yes, you can activate it by default.

Yeah, CD Freaks is one of the forums I frequent outside of our own. I usually just lurk though.

Is this to say that Solidburn simply won't work if bitsetting is set to DVD-ROM?

I have my 1640 set to DVD-ROM and can set the radio button for Solidburn to active. You're saying though that it's actually not? Clarify please.

Thanks

Re-read post. I think you were answering as to if Solidburn works with CD's.

It has nothing to do with bitsetting.

means it will not work with RW and DL media.

Re: Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default?

I believe both my 1620 and 1640 came with Bit Setting enabled and set to DVD-ROM by default. Isn't that the case with everyone else's drives?

Nero 6.6.x.x seems to handle the Bit Setting feature with no sweat. I don't need any other utility. I just open Nero, go to the RECORDER menu, select CHOOSE RECORDER, click on the OPTIONS button and BOOK TYPE SETTINGS is listed right there at the bottom with a pop-down list box. Very convenient.

My 1640 from newegg came with DVD+R by default, and jumper set to Slave.

Re: Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default?

You mean bit setting was set to DVD+R by default, not DVD-ROM by default, but it was enabled, right?

Re: Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default?

By default, both my 1640's came with auto bitsetting of +R to DVD-ROM - my 1620 was the same way.

Re: Enable SolidBurn and bitsetting by default?

Tis odd that they would in some cases and not in others.

I'm very glad that Bit Setting is enabled right out of the box. With Nero 6 I can set it the way I want (to default to DVD-ROM) or I could use the Bit Setting tools provided by BenQ. Either way, I'm good to go.
