DW1620(B7W9) Dual Layer Failures. Hello, I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions regarding a Benq 1620 with the firmware B7W9 that fails to complete dual layer DVD+R discs. So far, all the discs have been FujiFilm DVD+R DL 2.4x discs ( RICOHJPND00 ) I've done the following things to check out the drive, and all have failed: Disc1 - Burn 8gb ISO in Nero (v6.6.0.16): Failed at 51% (I then searched around CD freaks and found Nero wasn't the best choice so I downloaded IMGBurn) Disc2 - Same ISO in IMGBurn in "Test Mode": Completed ok with no errors, then did the actual burn (had to reboot first because the drive wouldn't recognize media after the test) and it failed at 50% Disc3 - Maybe Disc2 was just bad luck: Failed at 50% Disc4 - I tried a bunch of files totaling just under 8gb in Nero: Failed at 52% after finishing the "Generating DVD high compatibility borders" operation (While searching I found a thread where someone has the same problem, but there wasn't a solution posted, I was going to reply there, but closed the window and I can't find it now) When I try in my DW1625 (FW: BBIA), it fails soon as the burn process is started, the disc remains blank and useable. The end of the Nero log from Disc4 reads: -------------------- 8:30:16 PM #33 SCSI -1176 File Cdrdrv.cpp, Line 1180 SCSI Exec, HA 1, TA 0, LUN 0 Status: 0x04 (0x01, SCSI_ERR) HA-Status 0x00 (0x00, OK) TA-Status 0x02 (0x01, SCSI_TASTATUS_CHKCOND) Sense Key: 0x05 (KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST) Sense Code: 0x72 Sense Qual: 0x03 CDB Data: 0x5B 0x01 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 Sense Data: 0x70 0x00 0x05 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x12 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x00 0x72 0x03 8:30:16 PM #34 Phase 127 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Generating DVD high compatibility borders 8:30:16 PM #35 Phase 129 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Generating DVD borders completed successfully 8:30:16 PM #36 Phase 38 File dlgbrnst.cpp, Line 1832 Burn process failed at 2.4x (3,324 KB/s) -------------------- DMA is on for the drives. The computer specs are: WindowsXP SP2 AMD Athlon64 3200+ 1 GB OCZ Platnium Rev2 RAM The drives work nicely for all other types of media, I haven't had many failures except some Sony brand stuff at 16X (8X and slower is ok though). The rest usually works out rather well. Any help would be very appreciated. Thanks.

Re: DW1620(B7W9) Dual Layer Failures. Sadly it's the media. These are made by Ritek and almost as bad as Riteks brand name DL's. The BENQ's and Pioneers have problems with them. I can burn them on my NEC 4550 but I would suggest you get some Verbatim DL's, they are clearly the best of the current DL offerings.

Re: DW1620(B7W9) Dual Layer Failures. Thanks.. I've been thinking about getting some Verbatim after reading good stuff about them here. I prefer them for other media types, but the DL was a little pricey to casually check out. At least these discs were only $10 a package. ![]()

| Re: DW1620(B7W9) Dual Layer Failures. Damn this is dissapointing. I just got home from Phoenix and found the 3 Pack of these Fuji's on sale at BB for $9.99. Got 2 of them just to try out and then read this. Guess I'll have to use them in my NEC 3500 and see if they will work there. ![]()

Re: DW1620(B7W9) Dual Layer Failures. I picked up a BENQ 1655 today, and decided to give these discs a try again...They worked fine. I tried with random files to fill the disc up, I'll have to try a PS2 backup or something later and see if it's useable.
