BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, is this drive really a BenQ? at CD and DVD Burners forum; this is very peculiar, lol. i recently purchased what i thought to be a BenQ DW1620PRO from svc.com ( http://www.svc.com/dw1620prob-99.html ). the website states that the drive comes with nero as well, it came with sonic recordnow, but not nero. that really doesn't bother

is this drive really a BenQ?

this is very peculiar, lol. i recently purchased what i thought to be a BenQ DW1620PRO from svc.com (http://www.svc.com/dw1620prob-99.html). the website states that the drive comes with nero as well, it came with sonic recordnow, but not nero. that really doesn't bother me though. the drive itself has a black front, and i don't think it has the name BenQ on it anywhere. the front only has 4 logo's: DVD+R DL, DVD+ReWritable, DVD R/RW, and Compact Disk ReWritable. There is no BenQ logo or anything, it doesn't look anything remotely close to the picture on the website. on the top sicker, it says DW1620.OC3. in windows device manager, the drive is known as "ATAPI DVD DD 2x16x4x16"

can anyone tell me what drive i have? lol. also, as a small side-note, when there is a cd in the drive, the activity light stays on constantly. is this normal?

Re: is this drive really a BenQ?

It's an OEM BenQ DW1620. The Pro version has different firmware, so the only way I can tell you if yours is Pro is to know your version - but you could upgrade it to Pro even if it weren't so it really isn't that important.

The light thing is normal.

yes it is a benq 1620 "ATAPI DVD DD 2x16x4x16", i have the same drive. And yes the LED should stay on when a disc in drive, if led isnt on, somethings wrong. sasarchiver

u can flash to a benQ if u wish, but no real benefits, will just read as a benq1620, which im sure u do from here http://dvdpro.club.st/firmware/BenQ_Fw.htm#1620_clone

Re: is this drive really a BenQ?

Nero InfoTool tells you the firmware; if it's G7V9 (or any G7*9) it's a BenQ OEM (bulk) drive. You can use WinDWFlash to cross-flash it to the regular BenQ firmwares. I had to do that to get my drives reading at a proper speed.
