Look at the middle of the page. I can't flash mine with BQFlasher. It can't load the firmware into memory. I'm not sure if the .cvt can be extracted or not.

Re: DQ60 New Firmware - MRDC

I want to do more research before risking the drive to a flawed firmware flash. Seems that the fellow at Newegg is pleased with the new firmware but claims that he had to assign the single drive to the whole controller. I have two opticals on my secondary controller. Maybe you need to have the DQ60 setup as the primary on the secondary controller.

BQFlasher does not work with a DQ60 drives, as it it is TEAC design and has a completly different chipset.

Re: DQ60 New Firmware - MRDC

Thanks ala42,

I've used your program on my 1620: great program! I have a 1640 now that I flashed from a bulk firmware to the official BenQ BSNB. My DQ60 came with GRDC and I flashed it to the Teac's latest firmware. I had to go to the C version of the firmware to flash it before it would accept 1.0E. I would like to use the BenQ firmware but don't know how I'll ever get back now. MRDC says "Not allowed to be flashed." It wouldn't flash the GRDC either. The drive performs pretty well though. I got it at Compusa as a Hi-Val. With the rebate it cost me $39. I got another Hi-Val that was a 1640. That's what I was hoping the first one would be. It already had a black faceplate so I lucked out. Thanks again.

Re: DQ60 New Firmware - MRDC

I phoned BenQ's toll-free 1-866-600-2367 tech support line today and was told that a new BIOS would be released in about ten days. I don't know if they meant it will be truly new or if the MREC BIOS will merely be finally available at BenQ's U.S. website. However nobody at BenQ knew why the MREC flasher program always returned the "The drive is not allowed to be updated" message.

Re: DQ60 New Firmware - MRDC

I have an IO Magic DVD16DL that is actually a DQ60, which in turn was originally a TEAC DV-W516E. I have the GREC. I have downloaded the above MREC, dated 12/28/05. #1: Does this bring the drive up to advertised speeds of CD read/write 48x, and DVD read/write speeds up to 16x? #2: Does this firmware have any glitches or errors, such as the above error message mentioned by larrymoencurly? #3: How do I apply this new firmware? Thank you!

Re: DQ60 New Firmware - MRDC

The DQ60 firmware flasher does not allow to update the OEM firmware used on the IO Magic drive by design. The next MCSE release allows to remove this restriction.
