I agree!!
I just use the standard B7T9 and apply a writing strategy swap with MCSE

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

MID: CMC MAG E01
Brand: Bulkpaq
Type: DVD+R 8x rated
Burn strategy used: Yuden000 T03
Burned at: 8x speed
Firmware: BenQ B7T9

This burn is much better than with the regular B7P9 or B7T9(see second scan).
Although with Philips P3.2 I also got good results with these disc, just not with the stock strategy in B7P9 and B7T9. Strange as I have seen others with excellent scans with CMC MAG E01 using Benq firmware

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

Pretty scan for CMC MAG E01's, tslee! I may have to try that CMC MAG M01 strategy on my CMC Mag F01's and see what I get although the burns are already fairly pretty even at stock strategy.

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

Oh my! I took a peek in the write strategies and found OptodiscOR4 wasn't included. This media burns very sweetly on our BenQ's and is ultra cheap! $11.99 per spindle at Tigerdirect with Silver Matte finish and is very overspeedable at 8x.

MID:OPTODISC OR4
Brand: Intenso
Type: DVD+R 4x Rated
Burned as: Create Data Disc
Burn strategy used: PHILIPS 081
Burned at: 8x speed
Burntime: 8:37
Firmware: OptodiscOR4 Included

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

Braxas, thanks for the heads-up for the OPTODISC OR4 @ Philips 081. I'll give that a try.

In the mean time, here's my attempt with this Onidtech garbage DVD-R:
MID:ONIDTECH

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

@d.lu - try burning at 4-8x and see what you get. 4x media over-burning at 16x is normally bad-bad especially if it's supposedly garbage media. And I agree, rolling56, I'm glad too! The OptodiscOR4 stock burn wasn't terrible by any means but that burn with the Philips 081 strategy @ 8x was just darned pretty for media that cheap.

I tried to set Optodiscw002 to Optodiscw004 and flashed my FW, however, Nero and other programs still don't get it recognized at 4x burning, here's what I got thru DVD Identifier:

Re: Changing DVD±R write strategies (results thread)

Hmmm, thought I read in one of the other posts on strategy swapping that RW's weren't supported? Could be wrong on this of course but think I remember reading that somewhere.
