| burn process ? I have spent an entire day searching these forums and I'm hoping someone can answer my question because I couldn't find it. I have the retail 1620 with the Plumax external enclosure which is the prolific chipset. When I try to burn, the process stops and I get a "burn process failed" error message. I realize now that I need to update the firmware in my enclosure and that I should update the firmware to the Benq external firmware the 47n9. Will doing both these updates fix my problem? Also, right now I can only burn at 5x and just to be sure, since I have the retail version I can flash to the 47n9 without doing the cvt flashy thingy. Sorry, but all of this is overwhelming and I can't even get the burner to burn anything. Thanx in advance for your help. |

| Re: burn process ? I have this same setup in a Plumax USB & Firewire combo case using 47L9 firmware. When using the Firewire port I can burn at 16x without any problems. This is my Plumax enclosure:- http://www.dealsonic.com/plpmblcousb22.html Also I did have to upgrade the firmware of the Prolific chipset to get it to burn at 16x. Here's a post by dishinit that you might want to consider to flash your enclosure to the latest firmware for the PL3507 bridgeboard chip to ensure 16X DVD burns ... 1st, install the drive in the external case. Make sure there is no media in drive. Connect only with USB to flash PL-3705 & BenQ 1620 Pl-3507 Rom updater's & firmware can be found here: http://member.newsguy.com/~siccos/PL3507%20Firmware.htm Then using 2.14 Rom Updater, do a Rom read (write it down or do a screen shot save) on your existing Pl-3507 case firmware. Save the file. If your PL-3507 has "0X6F" Chip ID then you will have to flash up to 09/07 firmware using "2.04" Rom Updater. 2.14 Rom Updater will not work! After flashing reboot your external case, then read with 2.14 Rom Updater to insure your good with Sept firmware. If you have ATMEL flash chip you can use the 2.14 updater to flash directly to 09/07/04. Reboot case and confirm update with 2.14 Rom read. Updating to this 09/07/04 firmware will insure your drive will not have any drive recognition problems with your OS. If you wish to update to v185 (Nov) firmware (future HD use in case), then use Rom Updater 2.2 or 2.21 and the respective hex file. Reboot case and do confirm update Rom read. Quote:

| Re: burn process ? Thank you so much for your help, I will try that as soon as I get home. My last question is when flashing to the 47L9, can I just download it from Benq's site because I have the retail version or do I need to do that crazy cvt thing? Thanks again for your help. |

| Re: burn process ? I too have the Retail version of the BenQ 1620, however I downloaded WinDWFlash.exe and then the 47L9.CVT file from http://dvdpro.club.st/firmware/BENQ_FW.htm Then I connected the external case to the USB port and started WinDWFlash.exe and flashed the burner using the 47L9.CVT firmware. I do not know whether you can directly download the 47L9 file from the BenQ site and flash it (may or may not work). Quote:
