I would think in the Device Manager just like an internal drive.

Hi
Yes that would be lovely, not usb is about 1 or 2. It looks like you've got poor performance, maybe due to load on usb hub. See my scan of how it should be. You'll only get burst rate of 37/38 mbs when BEFB f/w used with internal drive. Sorry if this is short, also any follow up from me will probably be tomorrow as I'm out using laptop & mobile whilst waiting for someone.

Re: BQFlasher

Now I've disconnected all USB devices except the drive and my results are only mildly better - maximum Transfer Rate of 9.5x and no change with other metrics. Maybe it's the drive or the firmware. And, yes, I am hooked to a USB 2.0 port.

Re: BQFlasher

Which enclosure are you using? I'm betting that it's the chipset in the enclosure that's at fault.

Hi
I didn't think for one minute that you weren't set up to USB2, (Just mentioned it for the third parties out there). It's a shame that easing theload hasn't helped.
As Qyngali says it looks chipset related, which means the cure is a different enclosure. Unless you have firewire option, which I doubt as I don't recall this being mentioned.

Re: BQFlasher

New Version 0.7.1
Fixed:
  • Minor GUI fix (Flash Button)
  • BQFlash will terminate after a successful flash. I hope this will fix drive freezing.

To download the new version see my signature.

@Quikee: I have used your flasher at least 10 times already with the BSLB cvt and BEFB cvt and never had a problem with the 1640 freezing up on me, is this problem with the 1620 because I just bought one and I will probably get it this week.

Re: BQFlasher

No.. actually it didn't froze the drive for me either not on BenQ 1640 not on BenQ 1620.. but some reported this. No harm was done because it happend after the flash when the drive was rebooting.

No need to worry even if the BQFlasher freezes during the flashing.
We always have TDB's doze flasher (BENQCVT) as an rescue...

Re: BQFlasher

Hi Guys,

I am a new bie. Can I flash my Benq 1640 in an enclosure with USB/Firewire connection? Any precaution? Which firmware is the best?

Thanks a lot!

Ron.

Hi
Got your pm, hope you got mine. Let us know how you get on.
For those who are wondering what this is all about.
It's the answer to the above. Yes you flash using Quikee's BQFlasher. Just remember to disconnect/reconnect the USB cable afterwards.
F/w intended for external use BenQ's BEFB.

Re: BQFlasher

Hi Zebadee,

Thanks so much for all your help!! Flashing worked like a charm! Flashed the drive under USB connection as advised by you. Got burst rate of 27 under Firewire. However, it freezes if I use USB connection to burn... I guess it is the enclosure issue. The CD/DVD speed was not working on USB connection before I flashed the drive.

Anybody know how to fix that to make my combo drive working both way?

Thanks,

Re: BQFlasher

Hi
dealrong
Glad you got there.
Regarding USB/Firewire situation the only thing I can suggest is look to see if enclosure manufacturer has f/w upgrade. If not stick with Firwire or try an alternative case. Have a look on the enclosure thread.

Odd problem w/BQFlasher

I can't select any drive - the drive box is blank. See attached for what I mean - clicking the "Drive:" dropdown has no effect, it doesn't even drop down.

I did install Adaptec's ASPI and ASPICHK shows I have 4.71.2 of ASPI32.SYS & WINASPI32.DLL. I've rebooted several times. This is a brand new OS install, only Windows XP+SP2+updates and NVidia drivers. I do have the NVidia Paralelle ATA driver installed - could that be a problem?

Thanks

Re: Odd problem w/BQFlasher

use Nero ASPI.

Just out of curiosity.. do you have NForce IDE drivers installed ?

Re: Odd problem w/BQFlasher

Removed (actually selected "Update Driver") on the NVidia IDE driver and went back to "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller". I also went and found the Nero WNASPI32.DLL and dropped it into \windows\system32, replacing the Adaptec one. One of these two things fixed my problem cuz now it works.

Thanks!!

PS - I saw the sticky thread announcing the BQFlasher.exe - but I was posting about a problem that I didn't think was specific to BQFlasher, rather was MY problem. Turns out it was. Of course this info could be useful merged in there now.

Re: Odd problem w/BQFlasher

Yeah.. Adaptec ASPI drivers when used with NForce IDE does this thing.. the solution is to either use Nero ASPI or MS IDE drivers. You fixed it with both solutions hehe =)

Re: BQFlasher

Just FYI, with PL-3507-B chipset and its latest firmware fw_pl3507B_d090605.zip, I can flash the drives (BenQ, Plextor, LG etc) through Firewire.

You probably could. But why (do you want to have less features) and how (there is no 810 firmware available at all) ? Just stay with the Benq firmwares.

Thanks As I understood, still there is no possibility, to find firmware Sony Dru-810, not only as CVT file, but also as EXE?
I stay with BenQ, I just want to play with clones.
