Re: BenQ1620 16x ?!?

I use dvdinfopro to read the write descriptors on the blank dvds and it willtell you what the firmware of the dvd writer can handle on the blanks....you can have 16x certified media but if the firmware isnt up todate then the writer cant write at that speed.

Re: BenQ1620 16x ?!?

slightly off topic. . .
I sure wish I could find the complete supported media list for P9. All I can ever find is the overspeed and higher speed media list. What about 4x media that writes at 4x, and 8x media that writes at 8x? I know it doesn't have the marketing (sales) advantage of high "bling" factor to increase sales, but the information would be so very useful to me. This is quickly turning into a high-speed-media only writer. But I would rather save some cash by getting high-quality, low-speed media. Is there any of this that performs really excellent on the 1620?

Oh well. I guess that's not the optical writer drive I happened to purchase. The 1620 is built for speed. In that case, I sure would like to find a source for the Philips c16 that is so lovely at 12x. Now, I wouldn't mind paying a little bit more for that kind of performance. Is it even available, or is there an equivilent?
What about extreme high quality at 16x? I've never seen a write-at-16x scan posted that was entirely satisfactory (to me) on quality. What media can I buy for that?

What is your level of satisfactory quality then? Nero Quality Score of 99%?

Actually a simple way -- use the QScan to test if the media is feasible/recommended to write at 16x or other speed.

Why not just buy high quality 8x media and burn it at 8x? The drive isn't going to force a 16x burn on YUDEN000T02, it's just there if you want to burn at that speed.
