Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

I don't care that Benq will support DVD-RAM (read or write) or not, because I don't use any DVD-RAM disc at all.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

I think someone really wants to push DVD-RAM... also NEC will offer DVD-RAM support within 2005.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

Maybe it ain't a bad format after all!

Who has used it?

I guess 90% of the people that say they don't need it or that it's a useless format, never used it .................. but I could be wrong ofcourse.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

I have been using DVD-RAM for about 18 months, and intend to keep using it.

I also have a Panasonic stand alone player which was the main reason for using it to begin with.

I use it daily for data backups, which can be scheduled, and incremental.

A DVD-RAM can hold up to 9.4GB. There are also discs which have 4.7GB.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

BenQ are doing this in order to get OEM sales from HP

HP recently came to an agreement with Panasonic-that's why new Panasonic set tops will have DVD+R capability and HP's PC's will be shipped with Super-multi drives

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

anyone knows the advantage of DVD-RAM over +/-Rs?

Its something good to have though, with that option, it'll definitely beat LG with the "super multi" title fo' shizzo.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

DVD-RAM is like DVD-RW, in that its rewrite, but unlike RW it can be rewriten 100,000 times vs 1000, also DVD-RAM has very high quality errror checking and correcting system, thats why a 2x RAM disk reads at good speed but writes at 1x the other 1x is takenup with error stuff, so if your DVD-RAM is 5x it will write at 2.5x and you live with this fact because its best errror checking and recover system on ODD so far.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

well the point is the caddy version yes you can remove it , but it costs more and pain in the rear, better to get normal ones less problems

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

Are we talking about new 1620 firmware allowing DVD-RAM read/write?

If so, then WOO-HOO!

I have a few RAM discs that I got in an odd lot, and never used, so I'd love to be able to put them to use.

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

Thought you might be, but enthusiasm got the better of me.....

Just curious.....is it a hardware limitation, or can the drive possibly handle RAM if the firmware supported it?

Re: BenQ is gonna have DVD-RAM support

DVD RAM is a DEAD format. DVD+R is cheaper and faster. There are NO DVD RAM movies in the US. Again, another HP blunder.
