Benq DW800A DVD+R upgrade for DVD+/-R and dual layer?

hi i am interested in this drive

i have heard 2 things from shops here in taiwan can anyone else confirm this

theres apparantly an upgrade of firmware (paid) to support for DVD+R AND DVD-R out sometime this month and it would be paid. apparantly approxy 10-15USD another shop said 99USD :S i really doubt this high price

and from one more shop and on cdfreaks
theres a rumor it will support dual layer i.e. DVD-9

can anyone confirm either the above 2 roumors??

should i get this drive?
any bad comments? any good ones? reliable? good quality burn?

what are your thoughts!
thanks
i will be getting a drive at the end of thsi week so hopefully u guys will help me decide!!!

cheers and happy new year
