Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

I wonder if the 1620 will be firmware upgradable to support this?

It would be a nice touch!

BenQ has been very good when it comes to putting their customer's first. But, such an upgrade would really show us how much they care.

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

I thought I needed one of these, but since all of the discs are coming out the exact same color, I think I'll stick with the sharpie. "Get the brown disc. . .no, the other brown disc. . .not that brown disc!!!. . .the "other" other brown disc." LOL!!! Brown? LOL!!!

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

I'm sticking with colored Sharpies. Better to spend my $ on quality media than cosmetic enhancement to the DVD. Another silly gimmick from the Hewlett Packark people. Glad they finally dumped that over-hyped CEO, Carly Fio. The ComCrap merger was a huge mistake.

And this woman is going to walk away with over $21M severance package.

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

Frankly I am not impressed with what I see, the result reminds me of the output of those crappy thermal paper printers. I can produce a much better result with my Epson R200 and verbatim CD printable and TY DVD printable Disks. the only Possible advantage of the lightscribe (asthetics aside) would be if quality media disks are available for it at a reasonable price it would be cheaper than injet printing disks. and even then I would limit printing with lightscribe to only discs I wanted text labels for.

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

I actually like the quality of these label burns. I don't mind the fact that they are in gray scale, especially when you compare them to sharpie pens. There's no way I'm relying on my handwriting to archive the entire dvd collection of a tv series, for example. For everyday burns felt-tipped pens are fine but not for media I plan on keeping long term. The only thing that bothered me was that I didn't see Taiyo Yuden mentioned in their list of approved Lightscribe media manufacturers. HP already has a burner available directly from them for $130 US. If cost is a concern, you know that the cost of these drives will go down when other manufacturers release their drives. I'm not sure how much more Lightscribe media would cost, but I'm sure the premium would be similar to thermal/inkjet surfaced discs. Speaking of, inkjet printer cartridges are a grip (expensive).

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

at those prices and that time I will stick with the Epson R200 it's cheaper with high quality media available at cheap prices a heck of alot faster and way better results.

Re: BenQ DW1625's LightScribe ...

Some are saying that a simple text will take about 2 minutes to burn. And full labels at maximum resolution just 18 minutes. This info put a smile on my face 18 minutes is not that long.
Can someone confirm these labeling times?
