BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

Hello everybody here is my first post inside here. I hope we'll get along fine.

Ok guys I've read a lot of your post inside this forum and so far I've tried everything it came to me, but my problem is still the same:

I bough some mini DVD-R Princo (the code is PRINCO) and I have a BENQ DW1629 I just flashed with the B7W9 firmware. I use Nero 6.6.0.13 for burning and it just worked fine for every support I tried (Cd-R CD-RW DVD-R DVD-RW) but that's the first time I'm trying mini DVD-R (I though they were a nice Idea 'cause they are cheaper and I dont always need all the 4,7go of a normal DVD ... well whatever).
Here is what I see when I try :
- Recorder>Burn Image>Open Image>Burn Window ... okay so far so good.
- first thing I notice : the only option I've is 2.4X for speed and Disc-at-once (What If I'd like to try track-at-once? whatever) .... when I can see on the package of the mini-DVD 1X ... maybe?
- I verify that I've enough space to burn everything : I do.
- Ok : I start the burn and ... it say "could not perform start at Disc-at-once", WITHEOUT even touching the DVD.

so here is the LOG

Code:

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

1st - Argh ... how do I edit my post? Sorry I didn't realized my first lign was my serial.
2nd - Can't try better media 'cause I've 20 of them and I dont want to waste them. unless it's absolutely impossible to burn them : like BENQ blocked them or they are absolutely not compatible.
3rd - I though Nero 7 wasn't advised from what I read in the forum. but I'll try it.

PS : I can edit this post but not the first one ... strange isn't it?

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

I wrote update, not upgrade.

Stay with Nero 6 (6.6.1.4).

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

done, I just tried with 6.6.1.4
it's always the same problem.
any advice?
I think some kind of hack to force 1X instead of 2,4X should work ... but I don't know where to find those and if they even exists.
Nero Cd-DVD speed tell me "Error! NO ADDITIONAL SENSE INFORMATION (053005)" when I start a test.

here is the error log on Nero 6.6.1.4

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

Seems to be a drive/firmware problem because 2.4x is not suitable for DVD-R media, it should burn these media at 2x instead (because it cannot burn them at 1x anyway)...

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

so what do you suggest? I mean is there any conflict around my computer I should watch out for? I heard some stuff about nVidia chipsets ... didnt really understand though. I've an nVidia VideoCard.
btw, I can burn normal sized DVD perfectly at 4X and 8X ... so maybe if I could force the speed to 4X somehaw it would work : but how? is there any program that can do that?
I saw some speed edit tool around that patch my firmware ... do you think I should try those?

I also just saw this thread
it says something about ASPI so I checked my log and I seem to have the same ASPI as that guy. Only prob is I can't find that killaspi they are talking about. I found something called ForceASPI that Force the adaptec ASPI 4.60 on you computer ... is it an option?

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

Probably the only chance would be to use ala's MCSE tool, if it supports your burner.

Re: BENQ DW1620 + Princo's PRINCO mini-dvd-r

The BenQ has a flaw it cant write -R slower than 2.4x its a limitation of the chipset it seems even on DVD-RW media that is rated at 2x it will write at 2.4x causing problems.

Importing a 1x speed write strategy with MCSE will barely improve anything IMO.

Simaldeff, my suggestion is that you find a friend with an older burner able to burn at 1x speed. Just back up this file to a DVD+RW and than copy.

Your BenQ 1620 is a great high speed burner, but unfortunately it's not able to burn well with any 1x and 2x speed rated media. Sorry.
