Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

Well the fiver offer was a stab in the dark, was basically having a laugh. But £40 is plain ridiculous, especially considering they don't know what it really is and 20x Lightscribe drives can be bought new and retail from svp for £15..

But: http://club.cdfreaks.com/f92/philips...rmware-148001/

?

and lol BenQ or not, £40 is a rip off for any new dvd drive. ESPECIALLY if it's being sold by someone who thinks it's just any old drive.

BTW, think you'll have hard time to find any new DVD8801 drives in Europe nowdays. ebay maybe?
I meant logos other than the big BenQ name. Maybe I should have said icons instead.

I could have sworn I remember the 1640 from late 2004, but it was probably just my imagination. I love the drives so much, that I could start daydreaming that they were around back in the 1960s. I think the Student Nonviolent Coordinating Committee (SNCC) had them in use during the height of the U.S. Civil Rights Movement. Even Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. had a BenQ.

My point remains, the classic models had four icons, while I've been seeing some later models with only three.

As for the 8801s, I saw several sites about a week ago that seemed to have plenty in stock. I didn't bookmark them, but I'll see if I can find them again.

Here's one:

Here's another:

http://www.ultratec.co.uk/stocklists...del=DVD8801/67

And one more:

Yes , 1640 still beats most of the new burners

A friend of mine whom I got a 1640 a year ago and sold him some Panasonic TYG03 is very happy with the results .

He burnt a disc with 1640 @16X and the result is awesome :

What do you mean by this?, if you are asking whether 1640 is better drive than 1650 is depends to your own taste some people say definitely some might say no.

Let's hope every thing goes well and then the price you have paid is a fantastic price for BenQ 1640. I hope you enjoy it when you get it.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

Does DVDInfoPro report PIE/PIF totals wrong on Benq drives? I get same PIE/PIF peaks and Jitter as Nero, but the totals are much lower..

Well I have got it but I'm down an external case and I've lost a unique power adapter, so I can't test it for the time being. I guess I'll have to mothball it for a few weeks with the 1620 I bought some months back.

The price you pay when you only own laptops.

Thanks..should be good. Just looked it up and the total cost inc postage was £11.51.

That means I now own a 1620, 1640 and a 1650.
