Your dad is well respected member of this community and we all like him and his opinion is well taken. Happy New Year to our friend pinto2.

Why would he try to flash the almighty DW 1640 to the DW 1650? My 1640 is still going strong after several years of use.

He's our brave warrior and trying to see whether the 1640 is flashable to 1650.
From his great experience, it's not crossflashable, and we all learn from it.

pinto2 saved a lot of peoples drives by sacrificing his BenQDW1640. I applaud his efforts to try and go where no man has gone before.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

Completely off topic.

Thanks zevia and TCAS.

I live in country that invented cellphones, (Ericsson and Nokia, okay Nokia is Finland) as speaking we can be on-line all the day.

But when on holiday we only enter internet a while or two in evening after sauna and a few beers...
Wireless, or whatever it is, but one of our PDA's is online all the time though.

Edit. Think I've had a few beers to much. Sorry guys, but it's holiday after all.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

The HP dvd640i has been found to be a BenQ 1625 in the past.
Did the 1625 have LightScribe?

The HP dvd640c has been found to be a Lite-On in the past.

Other HP's have been LG models.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

Just found a Sony DRU-810A while servicing my dad's friend computer. I offered him to sell it to me, but he asked me get a drive and trade with him. So I took out my Samsung SH-S182D and traded it

The drive is made in China, August 2005, quite dated but still looking new & good in condition. He told me he only burned ONE DVDR with that drive and that's it, he use that drive as a normal CD/DVD reader more than a burner

Then, you know, it's flashed to a DW1640

Thanks achemen & TCAS.

Yeah, it showed up as DW1640

I even triple checked to make sure the label on the drive has no "-R" behind that "Sony DRU-810A", will kill myself if I flashed the wrong firmware & killed the drive
