Cool!
Darn, no more.
Do you know of any open auctions.
The dump of surplus Dell's (BenQ's) was great but went fast too.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

I'm guessing it's a 1640.

Hi-Vals have been known to be
BenQ DW1670, DW1650, DW1640, DQ60,
Lite-On 165P6S and
Magicspin DVDRW1016IM which is an Aopen.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

That Sony 810A may be either a rebadged 1640 or 1650 depending on whether drive label has 810A (1640) or 810A-R (1650) according to post #2483 of this thread. It'd be a good idea to contact the eBay seller to determine that if one wants a 1640 or 1650 rebadge, but that won't be necessary if it doesn't matter which it is to the buyer.

Either way for 18.00 and 8.00 shipping for a brand new DW1640 or a DW1650 its a great deal. The seller has 100% feedback and the drive is brand new in the box, my guess would be is was a DW1640, but like I said, they are both worth the price.

Its gone now but if keep looking you will be finding plenty of them, just have to be a little patient.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

That is a great price on a very good burner regardless of which it is. Not too long ago I got a Pacific Digital for $25 from Staples that was a rebadged DW1620. This was my first Benq, and I would have ordered at least 2 if I had known how much I was going to like it.

I agree under these circumstances this is an excellent deal and buyer has nothing to lose.

BenQ 1620 to this date remains of the best BenQ drive have made.

That is most likely going to be a DW1640 or a DW1650. The photo on the front of the box has the classic four icons on the trayplate to the right, which is the mark of a Nexperia BenQ. Obviously, that is not an absolute guarantee that you won't get a DW1670 (Panasonic) or DQ60 (Teac), but I have a gut feeling about that auction that tells me it's a DW1640/DW1650.

The internal version of the Hi-Val drive changed several times, but I never heard the same reports about the external model. I believe that Hi-Val stopped making the 16x external model sooner than the internals, so it's more likely that will be a Nexperia BenQ. If I'm wrong, let us know.

I always contact the seller if they haven't put up a clear picture of the label, and ask them whether the model says DRU-810A or DRU-810A-R.

Most people won't care either way, but I prefer the DW1640.

Dell DVD8881 SATA Burner:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll...m=160264438804

Discussion Here:

http://club.cdfreaks.com/f92/benq-dvd8881-213788/

It uses a Nexperia PNX7865EL chipset, but it obviously can NOT be flashed with BenQ PATA firmware. Do not even think about doing that if you buy it, unless you want to throw your money away competely.

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

OK, as the owner of at least 6 BenQ IDE burners, it is now time for me to buy a SATA DVD Burner.

What do yall recommend that would give me close to the performance of a BenQ burner?

Pioneer?
Samsung?
Something else?

Accurate READS and WRITES are BOTH very important to me, as I do a lot of MP3 creation from CD Originals, using EAC in Secure mode.

I also burn DVD's from ISO files using ImgBurn.

EAC takes advantage of the C2 code, so if I had to choose between two drives that were considered similar, and one had CD and one did NOT have C2, I would think I would choose the C2 one.

Now there might be a BETTER drive that doesn't have C2, so please enlighten me!

Any thoughts? Thanks

(I am asking here, because if you are still following this thread, you are pretty serious about your burners!)

Re: BenQ DVD Writer Are Vanishing

I am surprised and amazed by these prices over the ebay, these sellers must have bought these drives way more than $20 at the time, how then sell them for $20 or less.
