BenQ burns +R better than -R...NO MORE!

I'm so sick of reading how GREAT the BenQ is "as long as your burning +R"... Well I think it's time to remove that stereotype...
Check out THIS scan and tell me BenQ burns +R better than -R!

Re: BenQ burns +R better than -R...NO MORE!

Is there a difference if you scan it at 8x rather than max, or does it make a difference in reporting?

insaneoctane > You should have posted that scan in the NEC forum I'm very impressed. I have some media to take back to BB. Is that Fuji DVD-R MIJ you are using?

Re: BenQ burns +R better than -R...NO MORE!

Until B7P9, there is some problem with DVD-R. DW1620(~B7P9) cannot read DVD-R which is burned by Panasonic drive including DVD-RAM video recorder. With B7S9, DW1620 can read it.

Another problem exists. Early PlayStation2 cannot read video DVD-R burned by DW1620.

cool I have never used DVD-R media but the local sam's club has 50 pack Fuji DVD-R for 34.95 so I think I might give DVD-R a shot.

This is what I've been saying all along. I posted many excellent DVD-R scans and so have others in this forum from our BenQ DW1620s. Our drives are wonderful DVD+R burners and also great DVD-R burners. Did somebody say NEC owners are jealous....

Check this out

BenQ DW1620A vs NEC ND-3500AG vs Pioneer DVR-A08XLA.

Media: CMC Magnetics 8x DVD-R (CMC.MAG.AE1)

Write speed: 12x

NEC seems to be the looser here

I can also say BenQ DW1620 burns DVD-R disks well enough. For some inconsistent problems, no drive is perfect.

OC-FREAK > Those scans are in order of your .VS list? As in 1st BenQ, 2nd NEC, and 3rd Pioneer ? I'm going to take back some media to BB this weekend and grab me some -R's if they have any there. MIJ's of course. Runs some tests on my BenQ's just to satisfy my curiosity

Yes.

BenQ on top - then NEC and last pioneer.

Re: BenQ burns +R better than -R...NO MORE!

I've found that TYG02@16X looks great IF I scan it on the 1620. But if I take the same disc and scan it in my Liteon SOHW-812S using Kprobe it looks terrible (PI peaking over 100 in some cases, IIRC). So I'm not sure what that's telling me really. I haven't tried the reverse (taking a disc that scans well in the 812s and seeing how it does in the 1620). So I'm still a bit nervous about using TYG02 on this drive at the moment.

Hi Metaluna,

It might be useful if you could post the two TYG02 scans - one read on the 1620 and the other from the same disc read on the 812

That's normal - BenQ written -R doesn't scan too well in Lite-On drives (especially in the beginning). I don't know why.

But they scan perfect in BenQ and plextor drives, so it's two good results against one questionable...

I know both of you are referring to scans on Lite-on DVD-burners, but here is a transfer graph from my Lite-on DVD-ROM and it has NO issues. This is the scan of the SAME disc that started this thread.

Then just only the quantity sufficient to satisfy your curiosity

Apart from the excellent TY G02, the results of which at 16X I can confirm, other -R work OK but not great and can in general not be overspeeded.

If you have a large stock of -Rs, the Benq will not prevent you from finishing them satisfactorily enough but if you buy new media, it is better to choose +R, (unless it's TY G02) imho.

Not this NEC owner. I am glad for the good burn scans you are getting, but I have seen nothing here that is any better than my NEC with 32 cent media. I have been getting great burns with + and - all along, RW as well. Sorry to hear you guys don't get good scans with some media on Liteon drives.
