| Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Hi--- I just installed a BenQ 1620 and tried to burn a DVD+R data disc with Nero 6.6.0.14. I got a write error about 80% of the way through. I tried again, same thing. I've tried so far: -Writing at slower speeds (4x on 8x media) -Updating drive's firmware (B7V9) -Upgrading to WinXP (I was using Win2k) -Reinstalling Nero -Burning different files from different drives All of which have produced the same error at different points in the burning process. I haven't gotten 1 successful DVD burn from this drive. If you have any suggestions, they would be greatly appreciated! I'll try to include all relevant information here: Media I'm using are 8x Sony DVD+R's. Here's the DVD Identifier blurb: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD+R:YUDEN000-T02-000] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Disc & Book Type : [DVD+R] - [Not Available] Manufacturer Name : [Taiyo Yuden Co. Ltd.] Manufacturer ID : [YUDEN000] Media Type ID : [T02] Product Revision : [Not Specified] Blank Disc Capacity : [2,295,104 Sectors = 4.70 GB (4.38 GiB)] Recording Speeds : [1x-2.4x , 4x , 6x-8x] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- [ DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't want to paste a Nero Log here, so here's one linked (this is from when I was still using Win2k, I have since upgraded to WinXP but am getting the same error): http://holoros.com/Log4.txt If I can provide any further evidence, just let me know. And thanks for any help. I've tried researching this as much as possible, but feel like I'm missing something (I'm completely new to DVD burning. This drive replaced my 4x CD-R). Thanks! |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc @Roj Blake Welcome to CD freaks. Can you post a scan of the media, Your system specs would also help. You can post a Info tool Log (configuration) in # code wrap if you want.

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Hi, thanks for the quick reply! I'm not sure exactly what you're asking for, so I'll provide what I've got and you tell me if I got it wrong? First---the 1st linked Nero log was one of my frustrated attempts at 16x (to hurry up and get to the error!). Here is an updated log with WinXP at 4x: http://holoros.com/nu-log.txt Second---here's an InfoTool log, not sure if it has all the information you're after? http://holoros.com/InfoTool.txt My setup is kinda lame/cheap: MSI K7N2G with AMD 1400 (I think) and 768mb RAM. The BenQ is installed on the primary slave spot, with my main OS HDD as the master, and two other HDD's on the secondary chain. As for a scan of the media, I'm not sure what you mean. (Ahk! This whole DVD-R thing has me feeling pretty out of it. I'm nostalgic for olden times now. When things worked & money grew on trees.) |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc So if I am reading this corretly this is your error right? Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR) By scan I meant CD-DVD Speed Disc Quality but you probably can't do that because the writer did not write the lead out on the disc.

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Unfortunately you're right, I don't have a successful burn to test. Every DVD I've tried to create has ended with a "Write Error" at some point in the process. So I guess I can't do a disc scan? (Though I do have about 15 partial burns stacked up!) I've successfully burnt CD's (holy cow is 40x better than 4x), but I'm guessing that's a whole different laser/mechanism and isn't helpful information at all. A friend suggested that I try booting with a Linux LiveCD and burn a DVD through that to eliminate any software issues, but a quick look at burning DVD's from NTFS drives through LiveCD's showed I was in over my head. At one point in this ordeal I did use Nero CD-DVD Speed to run a Benchmark with "Create Data Disc"...it seemed to complete successfully. I didn't save the graph, but it took 15 minutes (3.92x), and the graph had numerous ominous looking spikes down from the 4x point. Can I use that disc to run a quality scan? The drive reads DVD's perfectly as well. So I'm hoping it's not just a bum drive, that I just need to check the box "Burn Entire DVD Successfully" in Nero. But DVD drive/media relationships seem fairly complex? Anyhow, thanks for the quick responses! |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc I am not sure what the problem is is but you can try this. Go to your device manager and under DVD/CD -Rom drives uninstall the BenQ and reboot, Then defrag your Hard drives and after that try running CD-DVD Speed create data disc and do a disc quality check after the disc is burned. Save any info as PNG and post results here.

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc I'll try uninstalling the drive now. I just formatted/installed WinXP on the OS drive this weekend, so there shouldn't be any crazily fragmented stuff, but I'll give it a try when I get up to leave the house. For now I ran a Disc Quality scan on the test Data CD I burnt with Nero Cd-DVD Speed a couple days ago General Information Drive: BENQ DVD DD DW1620 Firmware: B7V9 Disc: DVD+R (YUDEN000 T02) Selected speed: Maximum PI errors Maximum: 12 Average: 2.75 Total: 25567 PI failures Maximum: 6 Average: 0.01 Total: 110 PO failures: 0 Jitter Maximum: 9.9 % Average: 8.63 % Scanning Statistics Elapsed time: 9:35 Numer of samples: 17181 Average scanning interval: 8.09 ECC Glitches removed: 0 And here's the graph: ![]() |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc That's a good typical YUDEN000 T02 burn!! Forgot to ask are you using a 40 or 80 pin IDE cable? Don't think this is the problem but you will get better burns at higher speeds with the 80 pin cable and they are cheap to replace. Try scanning @8x as well for future scans.

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc That scan seems to be very good! Have you checked the media for any imperfections?

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Ok, I uninstalled the drive and reinstalled, and it successfully burnt another "test dvd". Results are: General Information Drive: BENQ DVD DD DW1620 Firmware: B7V9 Disc: DVD+R (YUDEN000 T02) Selected speed: 8 X PI errors Maximum: 43 Average: 6.53 Total: 78732 PI failures Maximum: 6 Average: 0.02 Total: 179 PO failures: 0 Jitter Maximum: 10.7 % Average: 8.91 % Scanning Statistics Elapsed time: 9:48 Numer of samples: 17572 Average scanning interval: 8.16 ECC Glitches removed: 0 I currently have 80 pin cables on both Primary & Secondary channels. I've got spares kicking around, I'll replacing the cable on the primary channel. At least I can burn test DVD's, I guess. It's too bad Nero isn't following suit with data DVDs! Thanks for all the replies! |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Maybe try uninstalling Nero again then go to Program files and delete the Ahead folder then go to start menu,Run>type in regedit then go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE>SOFTWARE and delete the Ahead folder after you have uninstalled Nero from add/remove programs. Then reinstall Nero and hopefully it will work for you. Might help might not!! ![]()

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc it looks like a prob with nero. the burns you are getting with cdspeed should show that there is nothing wrong with the burner. Maybe try and use other dvd buring software, like dvd decrypter to burn an image to disc and see if that works.

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc I just tried ripping/burning an ISO with DVD Decrypter and it gave me a "Write Error' message 4% into the burning process (this was with a different 80 pin cable on the burner channel). I"ll try uninstalling/re-installing Nero, as well. So if the burner seems to be ok, my only thought is that it's a hard drive problem (even though CDs burn from those drives?). I'm pretty lost! |

Try inserting the good disc you burned and under run tests in CD Speed run all tests. This will give you Burst ,transfer rate and a bunch of other tests, save the sceen shot and post the results. ![]()

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Hi crossg, thanks for the time. Here are the results from the test disc I burnt successfully: http://holoros.com/BENQ____DVD_DD_DW1620_B7V9.html for whatever reason the graph isn't showing up with the html, it's at: http://holoros.com/BENQ____DVD_DD_DW1620_B7V9.png Does anyone know a way to test hard drives for consistency, if that's even a possible problem? I ran some scan disk like programs, and they all came back ok, but could htere just be some connection issue between my storage hard drives on the secondary channel and the dvd-r on the primary? |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Every thing looks OK too me you might check your transfer rates as it should read right up to 16x, could be your CD-DVD speed read setting. Burst rate is right on. If you google for HD tack and run it, You should get your Hard drive read and burst rates. For future reference when the Nero tests are finished you can click on the save (Floppy disc)upper r/h corner, save as a PNG and post it by going to advanced, manage attachments. Hope this helps. ![]()

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc Hey Duders, Thanks for all the suggestions. I disconnected both drives on the secondary IDE chain and connected the BenQ as Second Master. So it was Windows drive on Primary Master, BenQ as Secondary Master, and I had at it. Both DVD's i tried burning this time failed right at the start. Something different, but no more successful. Attached is the latest log. I think I just wasn't meant to burn DVD's. Seriously, I've gone through 25 DVDs now, and the only success was the test DVD from the Nero info tool? |

| Re: Benq 1620 - Write Errors with Nero on every disc hi, I had the same problems with my BENQ DVD DD DW1620, tried almost everything before changing it for new one. So I think its better to return it, before wasting another DVD disk. And dont forget to return it with firmware you purchased it |
