Benq 1620 plays audio cds w/ sound, dvds no sound

I bought a 1620 drive (doesn't say Benq on it, so i assume it's the mass produced drive that they made). Anyways i installed it in my dad's dell dimension 4700 (plugged in the grey cable and the power cable). It plays audio cds fine (i can hear music) and it plays the video of the dvds fine.... but for some odd reason it does not play the audio on a dvd. I have updated to b7v9 driver. Anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

Go into the device manager and bring up the properties for the 1620, on the properties tab you will see a tick box to enable digital audio if its not already enabled do so and see if that changes anything.

One other item is to check the DVD player software and that's its audio properties are configured correctly they usually allow a variety of options.

http://ac3filter.sourceforge.net/
download the AC3 codec. Your sound should work if the DVD playing program (eg. Media Player Classic) is working.

Ah finally sound, it's nice to have it Thank you both, the codec worked great riggits. Now it seems that the player skips alittle bit with some DVDs, any ideas?
