BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, 8x +R media at 12x? at CD and DVD Burners forum; In the "good to write with" document on the BenQ homepage they say that 8x media from Philips can be written @ 12x. When I try this, however, the maximum speed available (in Nero and Alcohol) is still 8x. Has anyone succeeded in doing this? It's not a bad thing,

It's not a bad thing, 8x suits me just fine. In fact, I'm thrilled with my burner. It's a DW1600A patched to DW1620 with the official firmware. I don't care about the -R support because I adore the bitsetting function! They have done a great job, once again...
I just hope that in time they will have a firmware update to write DoubleLayered discs at 4x or more. But I guess for now I'll just wait for some good priced double layered media...

Re: 8x +R media at 12x?

According to benq RicohJPN-R02 could also be burned at 16x. First (with 1600-1620 upgrade firmware) I had 5 coasters, then after flashing original B7H9 firmware for 1620 I can't burn them faster then 12x.

Sure. I burn Prodisc 8X R03's @ 12X. Read through the forum here and you'll find several posts/threads about it.

I think RicohJPN-R02 aren't suited to 16x butrning.

Be careful, many Philips (packaged) media are CMC and not philips dye.
Did you look what dye you have with dvdidentifier or dvdinfopro or neroinfotools?
Let us now

See my TY burns here:

I ran a 12 and 16X +R. They came out very well.

Re: 8x +R media at 12x?

You were right bebaer:

Disc Regions are 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8
Media code/Manufacturer ID CMC MAG E01
Format Type UDF 1.02

But does there exist a way to know the dye beforehand? On the box it says Philips all over the place... I guess I'll just have to live with 8x, which is fine for me, unless they can speed up the 16x writing with a firmware upgrade. Because there just isn't that much difference between 8x and 16x.
Thx again for your reply Bebaer!

You can try at www.dvdrhelp.com , in List/DVD media section.

You have media code/ media color text and UPC/EAN code for a lot of media
And of course test with burners.

I have philips c08 and have burnt @12 but I will recheck if I still get the 12x option after the upgrade to b7h9.

confirmed
seems like new b7h9 fw does not allow 12x burn with philips c08 as it did with 1600 fw

Re: 8x +R media at 12x?

Now isn't that stupid? A new firmware should never have less possibilities than a previous version.
Nontheless 8x is perfect, I don't ask for more. I wouldn't have bought the 1600 anyway, but I got a great deal (read: store made a mistake) on it and payed only € 55 for it. For that price... I don't have the right to complain
If anyone has 8x media and can confirm it works fine at 12x or 16x, just let me know.
L8 guys!

it seems that c08 not burning at 12x is probably a bug in the new fw so hopefuly it should be corrected on the next fw upgrade

Re: 8x +R media at 12x?

8x Ritek R03 has been burning at 12X since upgrade to b7h9. Comes in around 6 1/2 minutes for a full disc. Previously burned at 8x. Had four fail right when I got them. They only would burn at 8x then. I haven't had any since I upgraded firmware. I have burned about 15 discs so far.

Interesting news, thank you

Maybe one quality scan, because we didn't see a lot with ritek R03

zazonz - we expect a read curve for quality scan, a Nero DVD Speed error graph.
