BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, 1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03? at CD and DVD Burners forum; Since getting TYG02's over here in blightey on the cheap is hard. What's a good alternative considering I like to burn at 12x or 16x if possible. I have seen a few low errors with Verb MCC004's and I spotted a 16x TYG03 burn with very good

1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03?

Since getting TYG02's over here in blightey on the cheap is hard. What's a good alternative considering I like to burn at 12x or 16x if possible. I have seen a few low errors with Verb MCC004's and I spotted a 16x TYG03 burn with very good results.

What do you guys think is a 'safe' bet?

@ Deadman, both medias you mention are great with BenQ drives. I personally prefer the + media, either Verbatim or Taiyo Yuden. I don't think you will go wrong with either.

If "safe bet" equals to price/performance, I would pick MCC004. You can get it cheap once in a while in stores for $15/50 pack.

YUDEN000T03 will also be good in 1640 @16x and better at 12x, but it's not as cheap as MCC004.

Re: 1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03?

Hi
Over here in Blighty. For over 2 yrs I have used 16x Infiniti branded MCC 004/MCC 03RG20. However recently quality had begun to waiver (in particular MCC 004). Then to cap it all the suppliers I've been using starting selling 16x Infinti branded CMC .
I've now switched to 16x Plextor branded Taiyo Yuden, YUDEN000T03/TYG03.
In all cases, BenQ along with + media having the edge except in the case of 1640 using BSOB (this was/is excellent with MCC 03RG20).
As the price is pretty much indentical. I believe that TY is way ahead for now.

zevia in Blighty means the UK, we don't use dollars over here.

Dead man what do you call cheap? As TYG02 is -R why have you net included Verb 16x-Rs? Either way check out this thread: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=183170 now that's not a bad offer.

I still want to know what you consider too expensive. £40 for 100 printable TYG02 is not a bad price in my eyes.

Re: 1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03?

I think the Plextor T03s are £15.50 for 50 at SVP (I have a spindle here).

So that's £31 for 100 - a very good deal IMO.

Re: 1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03?

You have not taken into account delivery charges. I am eyeing up 2x spindles of 50 Panasonic 16x DVD-R (TYG03) for £32.85 inc vat and delivery from svp.co.uk or 4x spindles of 25 Panasonic 8x DVD-R (TYG02) for £35.95 inc vat and delivery from moreforyourmonkey.co.uk

Hmm. Decisions decisions.

Re: 1640: MCC004, TYG03 or T03?

I guessed it might meam Moser Baia India. I can't recal which are better quality though the India or Taiwanese manufacturered discs. The trouble is I have been spoiled by TY. I am looking for similar low error counts on my Benq 1640 (Not even sure which FW is best for what media).

EDIT: Apologise for spamming my ramblings about media and prices in the Benq forum. It wasn't meant to get this long

Nope, I didn't, you're right. Even with delivery added on, I still think it's a good deal, but that's just me...I'm used to dealing with SVP, I guess.

And as for MII vs MIT...the MIT ones are said to be more consistent. The MII quality is more variable (depending on your burner and firmware, too), although I've had great results from them

Hmmm, if you are expecting consistent low counts (PIF below 500, low PIE), I don't know wether either 16x MCC or TY is consistently that good just yet. MCC can be fairly variable (PIF upto 1000+). With TY, PIF can be low but PIE may be relatively high. This depends on batch and/or Brand you are buying (In my experience)

8x TY (especially the +R) are more likely to provide what you are looking for in terms of consistency.
