BenQ / Philips Burner Discuss, 1640 Dual layer discs? at CD and DVD Burners forum; OK. I've been searching for scans for ages and not found the info I need. Would someone let me know if www.svp.co.uk or www.diskdepot.co.uk sell any dual layer dvds that give reasonable results on the Benq 1640? Thanks Pete

Verbatim Datalife Plus (2.4x) Double Layer DVD+R on svp.co.uk would give you one of the best result.

ricoh 8x speed would be ok, too.

benq isn't the best drive for the dl media, but verbatim would be the safest bet

good luck

I guess Dual layer media is still too rich for my blood then.

I was hoping I would be able to use some of the £1.50 discs.

I'll give it another year.

Thanks Shimman

I haven't tried any DL yet. For me the disks cost too much and the scans just look too ugly. I'm waiting for the market to mature.

But if the BenQ isn't the best drive for DL what do you think is better ?

Re: 160 Dual layer discs?

Hm, there seems to be some kind of price stagnation for DL media. In germany, the cheapest I have ever seen is 50 Euro for 25 pcs Verbatim 2,4x DVD+R DL discs. When do they finally become affordable?

Jackie

from my own experience with 1620/1640/1655, none did better than my ex-dvd burners like 716a/712a/110xlb/a09xlb did better
even old 3500a did better for the one of the worst like ritekd01

if i have to choose for the best dl, i would go for 716a

for single layer, 1655 seems doing better than others most of time; dual layer isn't for me as it is way too expensive.

Thanks I have a 716A - it died. even though its still under warranty I haven't bothered to return it. Very happy with 1620, 1640. Good to here about the 1655
I placed an order yesterday so will stick with SL and DVD Rebuilder for a little while longer. will now need to find out if TY make any lightscribe disks ?

Ah, DVD Rebuilder. Good choice.

As for TY and LightScribe, no dice. The best you'll find is LS media from Verbatim.

Do they deliver to the UK? That works out a hell of a lot cheaper than some prices I have seen for Verb DL discs where I live, at roughly £1.33-£1.40 a disc. Considering it costs me nearly £10 to buy a spindle of 10 Verb sl discs that's realy cheap for dl. At that price I might even be tempted to try a talk my friend into letting me use his card to buy them and give him the money.

O/T I wonder why TY have not yet produced any DL diaks or LS ? Perhaps I'm being naive but is it possibly because they will only sell quality media are are not willing to rush something out just for a sale ? Of course it could simply be that they don't have the technical capability - but looking at what they do produce I hardly think that is the case.

Maybe it could be as simple as they don't want to waste the money on the new equiptment that would be needed to produce them yet as there would be little return for the investment. After a couple here have baulked at spending more than £1.50 on a disc.

Re: 160 Dual layer discs?

TY hasn't even made rewritables, LightScribe would be a pretty big step.

Hadn't thought about that - but I haven't used rewitables for a couple of years now. Ordinary +R is now so cheap I use them for TV and then edit & reburn to TY if the program is something I want to keep.
